🌍 Presenting at CIGRE Paris 2026

As Advanced Conductor technologies are increasingly deployed to increase transmission capacity and improve grid resilience, understanding their long-term performance is essential to evaluating asset life, reliability, and operating flexibility.

Accepted for presentation at CIGRE Paris 2026, this paper evaluates the thermal ageing performance of carbon fiber composite (CFC) cores using the Arrhenius method, a standardized approach for assessing long-term material durability.
The findings indicate that CFC cores can achieve an expected thermal service life of approximately 80 years at continuous operating temperatures of 180°C, while also providing utilities with a framework to assess safe operating durations during emergency temperature conditions.

By establishing practical acceptance criteria for thermal ageing and asset life evaluation, this research supports more informed asset management decisions and greater confidence in the long-term reliability of Advanced Overhead Conductor technologies.

🌍 Presenting at CIGRE Paris 2026

Meeting the needs of the energy transition requires not only more transmission capacity, but new approaches to transmission line design optimisation that reduce environmental footprints.

Developed with Austrian Power Grid (APG) and accepted for presentation at CIGRE Paris 2026, this paper explores the potential of Carbon Core Conductors (CCC), a Grid Enhancement Technology (GET), for new overhead line projects, highlighting their material advantages (low thermal expansion, high tensile strength, and lighter weight) that enable longer spans, fewer towers, and reduced environmental impact. For a 100 km 380 kV OHL, using CCCs can cut CO₂e emissions by 5.09–12.57% compared to traditional ACSR conductors, primarily by reducing steel and concrete consumption from fewer towers and access roads.

We look forward to sharing the findings and discussions during the Poster Session and Group Discussion:

🌍 Presenting at CIGRE Paris 2026

For decades, transmission line monitoring has focused on specific points along a line, leaving operators with limited insight into conditions across the asset as a whole.

Accepted for presentation at CIGRE Paris 2026, this paper explores how embedded optical fiber can transform transmission conductors into continuous sensing assets, providing utilities with real-time visibility into conductor and environmental conditions across the entire line to support improved operational awareness, deeper asset insight, and more informed decision-making as utilities work to modernize and optimize their networks.
