What Is the Custom Tack Ordering Process?
A question I get asked all the time!
Ordering custom tack is an exciting process, and I want to make sure you know exactly what to expect when bringing your vision to life. Hereās a step-by-step guide to how the custom ordering process works at Legacy Leatherworks.
1. Letās Talk About Your Vision
The first step is to reach out via private message or email at [email protected].
Weāll discuss the features, details, and overall design you have in mind for your custom piece. Full tack sets are offered at established, set prices. For individual pieces, we may discuss your project in greater detail so I can provide an accurate estimate. This is also when we determine whether any specialty hardware or materials will need to be ordered specifically for your project.
2. Secure Your Spot With a Deposit
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin your order. Once your deposit is received, Iāll provide you with an estimated completion timeline.
The remaining balance is due once your order is complete and before it ships.
Deposits are primarily accepted through my website, where I create a custom listing outlining the details of your project. Payment options include credit cards, PayPal, and several payment plan options. Venmo is also available upon request.
For customers who prefer not to use online payment methods, I can accept checks by mail. Please note that specialty materials will not be ordered until the check has been received and deposited.
3. Your Place in the Queue
Orders are completed in the order that deposits are received. When your project is next up on my workbench, Iāll reach out to let you know before beginning the artwork process.
Please note: I do not provide custom artwork or design drawings before a deposit has been received.
Unfortunately, Iāve had instances where artwork was taken elsewhere or significant design time was invested without an order ever being secured. Creating custom designs takes considerable time and effort, and this policy helps protect that work while allowing me to manage my schedule fairly for all customers.
Thank you for understanding and respecting the time that goes into every custom creation!
4. Design Approval and the Creative Process
Once your project reaches the workbench, weāll revisit your design together to make sure all the details are just right before I begin.
This is the time to ask questions, explore options, and request any changes youād like. Iām absolutely happy to make adjustments during the drawing phase! My goal is for you to feel confident and excited about your design before it ever touches the leather.
Once the artwork is approved and I begin transferring the design to leather, changes to the tooling design will no longer be available. This is why the design approval stage is so important.
Throughout the creation process, Iāll share updates so you can follow along as your custom piece comes to life!
