Last week, Carlie and I flew to NYC for a couple days, rented a Penske truck, and headed upstate. There, we packed it with VW parts before making the 1,000-mile haul back to Iowa.

The stash came from a VW shop that closed 15–20 years ago, and everything inside had been mostly untouched until recently. For anyone who loves '80s & ’90s Volkswagens, this is the good stuff: all the cars were dismantled back in the ’90s and early 2000s, so the mileage on these parts is way lower than anything we can find today.

The building was a time capsule full of MK2 and MK3 gold. We covered the entire floor of the truck with nearly 100 wheels alone, including lots of NOS wheels. It’s only been a couple of days since we got back, and I’m already uncovering some fun treasures.

After a trip in September to scout out the parts, I went back to Interstate Vw Used Parts in TwentyNine Palms, CA. With the help of Carlie and Jim, over the span of three days, we prepped and loaded a 53ft semi trailer with VW parts. The parts are now back in Iowa City. We've only been working on them for a week, but we've made great progress.
