Congratulations to Dominic Coffey and Dallara for winning the 2026 Louis Schwitzer Award for Engineering Excellence and Innovation! Their rear tire ramp flap, or "flippy flap" as known by design insiders, significantly improved race car safety for 2026.

In the event of a car spin, the speed required to lift the rear of the car traveling backwards increased significantly reducing the change of car roll over. The design is elegant in its simplicity using aero loads to activate in the event of a spin.
