🌟 Intern Spotlight: Isaiah Towler
What inspired you to pursue a career in safety sciences, and how do you see this internship at Sheesley + Associates helping you achieve your career goals after graduation?
“What inspired me to pursue a career in the EHS industry was my high school vo-tech carpentry instructor Dave Liptak,” said Isaiah Towler. “He had informed me about the industry as well as familiarizing us with companies like MAC Safety during my time at Vo-Tech. Once he found out I was being recruited for football at IUP, he insisted I should look into the EHS program at IUP as it is considered a top university in the country for EHS studies. I looked into it and seen the opportunities and how promising it can be and went with it. Sheesley + Associates is helping me achieve my career goals simply by just giving me the opportunity to be apart of such a complex project. I’ve met and learned from so many safety professionals here at the PIT-TMP construction project, as well as the ACAA. This really is an environment where I can just learn and thrive, preparing me for when I begin my career overseeing sites or companies on my own.”

🌟 Intern Spotlight: Amanda Ellis
As you start your internship with Sheesley + Associates, what aspects of the role or the company culture have you enjoyed the most so far?
“An aspect I admire from this program that I believe evidently builds culture among the safety team and the workers is the 5-worker lunch,” said Amanda Ellis. “The safety team provides lunch for 5 workers from site to allow them the opportunity for feedback and to share any concerns they have about safety or any general problems they face while performing work. This lunch opens the floor and sheds light on any existing challenges the team may not have known about in order to resolve the issues. I think this program is very important and significantly builds the culture by allowing workers to feel heard and creating direct communication between the workers on the site and the safety staff.”

🌟 Intern Spotlight: MacKenzie Wolfe
What are the key skills or experiences you hope to gain during your time with Sheesley + Associates, and how do you think they will benefit you in your future career?
“The key skills and experiences I have gained out of my internship with Sheesley & Associates includes learning more about hazard recognition, prevention through design methodologies, coordinating with numerous companies/departments in the airport or construction site,” said MacKenzie Wolfe. “Most importantly, I had the privilege to learn so much from all of my mentors in the program. These mentors taught me so many aspects of hazard recognition, workplace culture, and I also got to learn about themselves personally and professionally. These experiences will help me in my career because they will enhance my education within safety, networking, and discovering the type of individual I have the potential to be within the field.”
