🎉 We’re excited to see the KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension open on May 18!

Custom Engineering is proud to have provided electrical engineering design for this exciting project, including vehicular and street lighting relocations and new street lighting from the east side of the Heart of America Bridge to Berkley Plaza.

The new extension connects the existing 5.7-mile streetcar route to Kansas City’s riverfront—beginning at 3rd Street and Grand Boulevard in the River Market, crossing the Grand Boulevard Bridge, and extending to the midpoint of Berkley Riverfront—creating a seamless ride from UMKC all the way to the riverfront.

Thursday was a big day for Jackson County! 🎉
The ribbon was officially cut on the brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art $320 million Detention Center — a modern, 1,000‑bed facility built with safety, dignity, and natural light in mind.
Custom Engineering is incredibly proud to have been part of this project from the very beginning back in 2016, all the way through completion. Our team provided commissioning for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and we were grateful for the opportunity to work alongside CGL and Preferred Building Solutions throughout the process.

This past Thursday, March 12, Mill Creek Elementary in Independence, MO hosted an exciting STEM Night for families— and it was a blast! 🚀
Custom Engineering mechanical engineer Karen, along with her husband Jeff, also an engineer, each volunteered to lead a station. Students and families got hands-on as they built mini “rockets” using water and Alka‑Seltzer tablets (aka rocket fuel). The reaction sent film canisters shooting all the way up to the gym ceiling! 😄
Along the way, kids explored the phases of matter—solid, liquid, and gas—and learned the new vocabulary word chemical reaction. ✨🔬

It’s been a long time coming, but the new Jackson County Detention Center is almost ready to open. The current facility is aging fast, so a brand‑new, state-of-the-art center was built to take its place.
Custom Engineering is proud to have been part of this project from the 2016 study all the way to today, as we wrap up commissioning the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

The American Jazz Museum is preparing to move forward with it's first major renovation in 25 years. Custom Engineering has the pleasure of providing the electrical and plumbing design for the expanded Blue Room, new cafe, and reorganized exhibits.

The City Council has approved $3.2 million for the American Jazz Museum's first major renovation in 25 years.

Last week on Sept 19, our CEO, Joe Davis, participated in a BJC 201 Healthcare Design and Construction Panel entitled: Growing a Sustainable Business During Uncertain Economic Times along with the CEO of KAI, Owner of David Mason and Associates, Vice President of Lockton Companies and President and CEO of Penn Services Inc. The panel was moderated by Marvin Johnson of Construction Management Partners.

Key insights from the session included:

• The importance of maintaining strong financial management, cash reserves, and diverse income streams.
• The need to adapt with agility, embracing innovation and digital tools to stay resilient in shifting market conditions.
• The value of cultivating customer relationships through transparency, loyalty, and a strong service mindset.
• A reminder to approach challenges with courage, clarity of decision-making, and consistency in ex*****on.

In addition, Custom Engineering was pleased to announce and celebrate our acquisition of TIE Consulting, LLC at the meeting, a fellow member of the BJC 201 collaborative, with team leaders Bob Kramer and Cindy Bambini in attendance.
