Houtex Engineering is a successful and growing Houston based civil engineering firm that is seeking a full-time Civil Drafter and/or Designer.
Houtex provides prompt and efficient professional services in relation to the land development and infrastructure design projects. Our company is known for its consistent accuracy on drawings and efficiency on solutions, which has allowed us to maintain a very strong relationships with high-profile clients, firms and agencies.
Ideal candidate will work closely with senior designer(s) in planning, designing and drafting a variety of commercial, residential and land development projects; will utilize strong AutoCAD skills to develop design deliverables such as grading, drainage, utilities, paving, floodplain plans, analysis and reports.
The experiential learning skill is essential, so as long as a strong foundation of skills exists, we will provide direct training on the specifics. Proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory. Civil experience is preferred. This is a small engineering firm, so the ability to fit in with our organic culture is important.
Typical Responsibilities:
• Perform both routine and non-routine, complex drafting assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.
• Decisions made with general understanding of specific, standardized procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines.
• Receives instructions on daily work and on new assignments.
• Conduct design calculations for storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main utilities
• Correlate, interpret, and modify data obtained from topographical surveys, geotechnical reports, as-built drawing and other resources.
• Respond to plan comments from reviewing agencies.
• Develop and maintain an inventory of GIS data and applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of recent experience performing CAD drafting duties in a civil engineering (preferred), architectural or other engineering-related environments.
• Associates or higher degree in related field. Significant experience without a degree would be considered for the right candidate.
• Highly proficient in utilizing External References, Sheet Set Manager, annotations and dynamic blocks and strong knowledge of revision concepts and title block information.
• Ability to understand and interpret engineering documents (prints, specifications, manuals, etc.)
• Ability to work on multiple projects at a time, accurately & efficiently under limited supervision.
• A high degree of focus, attention to detail and accuracy
• Good analytical and computer skills
• Ability to Identify, report, and resolve interferences and problems
• Hard worker, team oriented and self-motivated.
• Good organization habits
• Competency in mathematical and geometrical computations, and proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Relevant experience in land development and preparing grading & drainage plans, utility plans, paving plans and site layouts.
• Experience with GIS Systems
