There is no legal definition, so any supplier can claim it.

Here's what to check before you believe the label:

✅ THIRD-PARTY CERTIFICATIONS

FSC for paper, BPI for compostable, RCS for recycled content.

✅ EXACT PERCENTAGES

Be aware of vague phrasing.

"80% post-consumer recycled content" means something.

"Made with recycled materials" means nothing.

✅ CHECK THE WHOLE PRODUCT

A plastic lining, coating, or handle can make recyclable paper non-recyclable.

Confirm every layer and design element fits the claim.

✅ CONFIRM THE DISPOSAL PATH
