Our high school summer interns just wrapped their first few weeks at WPP. We asked them to be honest about it. Here's what stood out.
Caroline spent a day shadowing our VP of Rental, Jeanette Stratmann, and came away stunned: "I couldn't believe how many calls she took, and how she remembered every detail."
Hunter picked up a skill he never expected to learn, operating an indoor crane to package heavy parts for shipment, while RJ walked in assuming a lot of guys wouldn't love their jobs and walked out surprised by how genuinely passionate everyone actually is.
Our Founder & CEO Will Perry sent each of them into the summer with a copy of Runnin' Down a Dream: How to Thrive in a Career You Actually Love by Bill Gurley. It's a book about doing work you actually love, and one passage sums up the whole idea: "In order to be great, you have to do the work. In order to do the work well enough and for a long enough to be great, you have to love it. It can't feel like work at all. That is an inescapable fact, an immutable truth."
Judging by what they told us, that's exactly the kind of summer they got. We also asked them to sum up WPP in one word, Gen Z edition. Drop a comment with your best guess at what they mean, or just tell us your favorite. We'll confirm who's right!
