Talons Garage

Talons Garage Not just an off-road skid plate, not just a catalytic converter protection plate, but BOTH! Greetings from Talons Garage! Gotta Diversify!

My name is Shaun and my wife’s name is Crystal. We are a husband-and-wife team that started this adventure about a year ago in our three-car garage. I want to take a quick minute to talk about us, and who we are:

Since I was a kid, I have always been fascinated by anything with wheels, rather it be on road, or off road. I have always loved to tinker and build things. While it has always been a ho

bby of mine, I never considered doing it professionally. In fact, both my wife and I are advanced practice nurses for our day jobs. My wife and I have greatly enjoyed being small business owners and are having fun with this endeavor and growing it. What we Make:

We currently make catalytic converter protection/off road skid plates. We are different from most other off road skid plate manufacturers in that we also design our plates to protect the catalytic converters. We differ from most catalytic converter protection plate manufacturers in that we also design our plates to be strong enough to function as an off-road skid plate. Catalytic converter theft has been crazy the past two years, and we hope to offer the best deterrent we can. I do think eventually, the amount of theft will slow down, which is why I am also focusing on entering the off-road accessory market. Why choose us:

-At Talons garage we are 100% in-house. From designing to fabricating to packing and shipping - we do it all! Being solely in-house means better prices for end consumers. We do not mark up our prices and try to keep fair prices for all.

-Our products are made out of ¼” aluminum, which is twice as thick as most catalytic convertor protection plates on the market. The added thickness makes it near impossible for thieves to be able to cut through the shield easily. Because our plates are made out of aluminum they will not rust and therefore it is not necessary to powder coat them - Though you may choose to do so for the aesthetics!

-Here at Talons garage we are a Veteran-owned business

-We advertise a 1 week lead time as a worse-case-scenario, but on average we can have most orders out same-day or following business day. We do not have an extensive back log on our products. If it is in stock, it is ready to ship!

-We take pride in providing the best customer service! Our response times are no more than 24-hours (unless it is during the weekend or a holiday). If you have not heard from us within 24-hours - message us again and let us know. We do want to point out that we do not have a receptionist to answer phone calls, so to be completely transparent, email is the best way to contact us.

-We are always looking for ways to grow our business. Please feel free to tell us how we are doing and how we can better serve our community! Our Future:

In our future we hope to offer full off-road packages to include skid plates for the engine, transmission, transfer case, gas tanks, rails, and more! This is only the beginning for us and we hope to be around for years to come! As we grow, we are continuing to look for ways to invest in new machinery and processes to offer you only the best quality product. Stay tuned in on our journey! Best regards,
Shaun and Crystal

Built different | Not all aluminum is the same. We spec 5052-H32 on every plate we build — Here’s why.

6061 looks stronger on paper, but weld it and bend it and the numbers tell a different story. 5052 has higher fatigue strength than 6061 — The number that matters most for a plate that’s taking hits for years, not once.

We spend just as much time making sure it arrives perfect as we do building it. Foam edges + stretch wrap on every order — no exceptions. Link in bio.

Powder coating is the final step before packing and shipping. In-house powder coating means that we control the finish quality from start to end.

This is the setup that holds a skid plate together.

I started learning to weld in a one-car apartment garage while finishing my doctorate. I spent way too long chasing perfect TIG beads. Now it’s a Miller 350P push-pull — Built for aluminum production, not pretty welds. Consistency and strength over aesthetics, every time.

Flat steel becomes armor right here. This is how every skid plate gets its shape.

Most of the process starts on the CNC laser. We’re running an Oree 6KW fiber laser with an exchange table. That’s where everything gets cut out- Holes, slots, and overall shape. It’s probably the most important machine in the shop.

If the laser goes down, everything else basically stops, and it’s also the hardest machine we have to keep running consistently.

Figured I’d give a quick look at how the shop is laid out.

It’s a mix of organized and mid-project most days. When we’re running parts it doesn’t stay clean for long, especially once material starts moving through.

We try to keep the workflow pretty simple and linear so parts don’t bounce all over the place.

Raw sheet comes in and goes straight to the CNC laser.

From there parts move over to deburring and edge finishing on the Loewer 4TD and Apex EZ, then over to the Mitsubishi press brake for forming. After that some products go to welding, and finally into the powder coating booth and oven.

Most of the efficiency really comes from that flow — once parts start moving, each step feeds the next one.

We’re running Miller welders for assembly, and having powder coating in-house helps keep everything moving without waiting on outside vendors.

Still making small changes here and there, but the overall flow is working pretty well right now.
