This week, Wes Gratz and Rob Peters from GS Engineering are on-site at the Advanced Snowmobile Competition in Eagle River, Wisconsin.

GS Engineering is proud to sponsor the Innovation Award at the event. Separately, Wes is serving as a Hybrid Snowmobile Technical Inspector, and Rob is a Technical Inspector supporting the Emissions Analysis Team. Together, they’re enabling collegiate teams test their designs through cold start, acceleration, noise, handling, and durability challenges.

Watching students turn engineering theory into practical solutions—while forming industry connections—demonstrates the lasting value of applied learning.

Lending a Hand — and Some Firewood — to Our Community
Over the weekend, GS Engineering team members volunteered with Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly Upper Michigan Chapter at their Chassell firewood site to support the organization’s Firewood Program — an effort that helps keep the homes of elderly community members warm throughout the winter.

The team spent the afternoon cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood that will be delivered to local residents who rely on wood heat during the cold months ahead.
We’re proud to support such an important community program and grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact alongside an organization dedicated to caring for our elderly neighbors.

Supporting Our Community
GS Engineering proudly supported Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly Upper Michigan Chapter (LBFE) and their annual Food Drive. Our team came together to donate 320 pounds of food and a monetary contribution to help alleviate food insecurity among local seniors.

LBFE plays an important role in our community, ensuring that no elderly neighbor feels forgotten or goes hungry. Although this year’s food drive has wrapped up, their mission continues. As they prepare for their upcoming Thanksgiving meal, donations of nonperishable food items or monetary gifts are still greatly appreciated.

Meet Ed Knoch, GS Engineering’s Analysis Team Lead! Ed has worn a lot of hats in his almost 15 years with the company, but currently, Ed is in charge of managing talent and resources for the Analysis Team and helping to match our engineers with the right client projects based on their strengths and specialties, so every project has the very best team for the job.

Learn more about Ed below:

Q: What do you like most about working at GS Engineering?
I enjoy the variety of challenges we're presented and especially enjoy working through those challenges with my team and our customers. It's a great feeling to be able to enhance a customer's capabilities and guide them toward a solution for a problem they were not sure how to approach.

Q: What’s your favorite kind of project to work on?
My favorite projects are generally the ones that involve all of the GS Engineering functional groups (Design, Analysis, Test, Supply Chain, etc.) needed to make an idea a reality. When my team and I get to see how our modeling and simulation efforts in support of the project aligned with reality, it's very rewarding.

Q: What’s one song that always gets you in the zone?
Why Can't This Be Love by Van Halen

Q: What’s your go-to snack during a long workday?
Whatever's in the candy dish back in accounting or at Nata's desk.

GS Engineering's Team Leads, like Ed, play a key role in making sure our clients get the collaboration and quality of work they expect when working with us. Stay tuned next month to meet more of our team members and learn why they love working at GS Engineering!
