Michigan Tech Tennis Club

Michigan Tech Tennis Club This is the official page of the Michigan Tech Tennis Club. What is the Tennis Club? WHEN DO WE MEET? If you want to stay for one hour, come for an hour.

This organization is committed to helping everyone at Michigan Tech learn how to play and enjoy the lifelong sport of tennis. Tennis club is an organization which provides students with a fun and friendly atmosphere to play the lifelong game of tennis. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran, the tennis club has something to quench your thirst for tennis. Well, that really de

pends on how good you feel you are. Everyone practices on Sundays at Gates Tennis Center, but we try to provide everyone with an atmosphere that they feel comfortable in. In order to do this, we try to split people up based on their perceived skill level. You decide which skill level is right for you, and that determines when you should come to practice. The practice times can be found below:

Beginners/Intermediates
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Intermediates
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Intermediates/Advanced
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

The great thing about having the times split up this way, is that you can stay for as long you’d like! If you’d like to stay for two hours, you can do that as well. We will never tell you that you cannot come to one of the times. The sessions have been split up that way only to provide a more fun atmosphere for you. WHAT IS MY SKILL LEVEL? Beginner: A beginner is someone that is brand new to the game of tennis. These people have never played tennis before, or would like a reminder about the basics of the game of tennis. The beginner session is run just like a tennis lesson, with an instructor running drills and games. Intermediate: Intermediate players are people that have played tennis before, and have a firm grasp on the basics of tennis. These people are ones that would like to continue playing tennis, but don’t necessarily want to take it too seriously anymore. Advanced: Advanced players are the people that played varsity level tennis in high school, and would like to continue playing in a more competitive environment. These players love a challenge, and want to continue to push themselves to get better, but still like to have fun as well. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? All you need to do is bring yourself, a tennis racket, and non-marking shoes. We will provide you with the courts and the tennis balls. If you do not have the proper equipment, you can rent them at the Gates Tennis Center for a small cost. IS THERE A COST? As much as we would love to provide you with everything for free, we do have to charge a membership fee of $20 for the entire school year. This fee is only used to buy the tennis balls that you will be using throughout the school year. Also included in that membership fee is the club t-shirt! Think about it…$20 for an ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR of guaranteed tennis club fun. You cannot find a better deal anywhere else. And the shirts are pretty cool too. DON’T THINK ONE DAY A WEEK IS ENOUGH? The tennis club offers more ways to get involved. This club is a part of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Tennis On Campus. Through the USTA, the club has the opportunity to travel across the Midwest and play the tennis clubs from a bunch of different universities. We travel everywhere from the University of Wisconsin – Madison to the University of Michigan, and everywhere in between. These matches are very competitive, but we have a lot of fun as well. If you would like to learn more about the travel team, and what extra commitment is needed as well, contact the president of the Tennis Club. Information can be found on Involvement Link.

Fall 2019 was a great semester for the Tennis Club. We saw many returning and new faces through out the semester. The team came in third at the UW Whitewater Tournament! To finish out the semester we got some long overdue new tennis balls. Hopefully the Spring 2019 semester will be at least as great as this one.
