See the process advantage of good liquid mixing; an even distribution of particles, versus poor liquid mixing, where particles accumulate and vortex formation occurs. Oftentimes, operators see a vortex and believe that accurate blending is achieved. However, it is shown here that good liquid mixing displays no vortex motion.

Good liquid mixing begins with the mixer placed center over the tank, with two to four equally spaced baffles in the vessel. This enables the impeller to best direct liquid flow in the tank. Accurate liquid mixer positioning leads to even particle distribution and uniform suspension.

The Brawn Mixer applications engineering team designs impellers for liquid mixing systems. High-shear impellers are used in dispersion, emulsion, and particle-reduction applications where a combination of liquids, or a combination of liquids and solids, may be present. Applications requiring high-shear mixing occur in industries including chemical, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and beverage, adhesive, coatings, and minerals.

The Brawn Mixer RHP6 and R906 impellers effectively blend liquids and gases in two-phase mixing applications, including chemical foaming agents, aerosol products, or carbonated beverage products. The RHP6 impeller is designed for use in reactor tanks to facilitate chemical reactions and enable accurate mixing of the liquid components.

The Brawn Mixer sawtooth impeller provides high-shear mixing where dispersion of materials is required; it is used in processes including dissolving, emulsifying, and de-agglomerating solids. The sawtooth impeller is also used in processes including clay slurry preparation, pigment dispersion, flavor emulsification, polymer blending, and paper coating.

Brawn Mixer liquid mixing systems are engineered-to-application to enable optimal fluid blending in applications including food and beverage processing, pharmaceuticals and chemicals blending, paints and coatings mixing, and cosmetics formulations.

Improper mixer positioning typically leads to the formation of a deep vortex and swirling of solids, resulting in poor liquid mixing. The Brawn Mixer applications engineering team designs liquid mixing system mounts to provide proper mixer position, eliminate a vortex and swirling of solids, and to aid in effective liquid mixing.

Brawn Mixer applications engineers design liquid mixer mounts to locate the mixer at an angular-offset position to achieve effective liquid mixing. Brawn Mixer applications engineers consider application-specific requirements when designing angular-offset mounts; either angle-riser mounts or clamp mounts. Angular-offset mounts, often angled at ten degrees in the proper quadrant of the tank, provide an accurate liquid blend. Clamp mounts are used to adjust the angle of the mixer, shaft, and impeller.

Brawn Mixer BTO/BTR Series liquid mixing systems are engineered to project-specific requirements for minerals processing applications. Designed for open- or closed-tank operations, Brawn Mixer liquid mixing systems provide effective agitation in minerals processing, including flocculation, leaching, digestion, pressure oxidation, and solvent extraction.

The Brawn Mixer applications engineering team designs BTO/BTR Series systems with a parallel or right-angle gear-drive based on application-specific requirements. The Brawn Mixer gear-drive BTO/BTR Series mixer features rigid couplings that work to maintain alignment between the mixer drive components and the mixer shaft during operation. The rigid couplings are removeable, enabling easy access to the mechanical seal without removing the entire drive assembly.
