A few small changes before you get home can make a big difference. Keep essentials within easy reach, know your movement restrictions before you leave the hospital, and make sure you have the right tools in place so you're not figuring it out as you go.

Using the four grippers on the FreedomWand is simpler than it looks, but understanding how they work before your first use makes a big difference.

The four grippers work just like your fingertips, creating tension to hold tissue, a loofah, a razor, or an ointment pad securely in place. Slide the button up to open them, load your item, then slide it back down to pull the grippers in and secure everything in place.

A couple of things to keep in mind. Never force something in if it isn't fitting, and never bend the grippers backwards. They're built with a living hinge designed to open and close thousands of times, but bending them the wrong way can break them.

Get the technique right and it becomes second nature fast.

Most people don't think about this until they're already home and struggling. A little preparation before surgery day makes coming home a lot less overwhelming.

Rearrange your bathroom, stock up on supplies, set up your recovery space, and make sure your adaptive tools are ready before you leave. The less you have to figure out when you get home, the more energy you can put toward healing.
