Something new has arrived at South Central Diesel!

We're excited to add a Carbon Zapp MTBR-X test bench to our fuel shop!

This new equipment will help us expand our fuel injection testing capabilities, giving us the ability to test and diagnose a wider variety of diesel fuel system components, including common rail injectors from more major oem brands, high-pressure pumps, and other electronically controlled injection systems.

With advanced testing technology and precise measurements, we'll be able to take on more applications and continue providing the quality testing and service our customers count on.

We're always looking for ways to improve and expand what we can do right here in Holdrege, and we're excited to put this new machine to work!

Friday Fuel: What actually goes into rebuilding a common rail injector?

Each injector is torn down, inspected, cleaned, rebuilt to factory specifications, and tested on factory test equipment to make sure it’s performing like it should.

With the tight tolerances and pressures found in common rail fuel systems, the rebuild is only part of the process. Proper testing is just as important before an injector is ready to go.

A new Holset turbo and actuator ready to be installed on a Cummins.

South Central Diesel is an authorized factory distributor for Holset and BorgWarner, as well as a Garrett Authorized Service Center.

When installing or replacing an electronic Holset actuator, we also use factory Cummins/Holset software to properly calibrate and program the actuator to the turbo.

Friday Fuel: A Bosch VE pump coming back together on the bench.

This is an older, mechanically controlled style of injection pump, but that doesn’t mean it’s simple. There’s still a lot that goes into getting everything assembled, adjusted, and calibrated correctly.

Once this one is finished up, it’ll head over to the test stand to make sure everything is calibrated to Bosch Factory Specifications and working properly.

This Stanadyne Industrial DB2 is in the shop and ready to be gone through. The DB2 is a mechanically governed rotary injection pump that was used across a wide range of diesel applications for many years.

We still see plenty of these older pumps come through our fuel shop for rebuilding and testing, helping keep equipment that’s been working for decades going strong.

Friday Fuel: A FAILED CP4 CAN BE MORE THAN JUST A FAILED PUMP

The Bosch CP4.2 takes low-pressure diesel fuel and raises it to the extremely high pressure needed by the common rail fuel system.

The problem is what can happen when the pump begins to fail internally. Metal from pump deterioration can circulate through the fuel system, contaminating other components along the way.

That’s why with a suspected CP4 failure, replacing the pump alone may not fix the problem. The entire fuel system needs to be checked for contamination. If metal has circulated through the system, additional cleaning and component replacement, including the injectors, may be necessary.

Catching the problem isn’t just about the pump. It’s about what happened downstream.
