More cast aluminum heads out the door!

We repaired the crack and sealed a coolant port on this Holley manifold. The coolant port was polished smooth for aesthetics, the cracked area welds were left for structural integrity. From here we hand it back over to Hobbs Mfg. & Powder Coating for a fresh coat of powder!

Little extra care with this one!

This Chevrolet Corvette wheel had a 1/2” hole in it. A repair on wheel like this is the obvious cheaper option than purchasing new.. this wheel is over $1,200 new!

The hole was repaired treated as open root and then 1/4” 6061-T6 Aerospace grade fishplates were added to both sides with structural 3 bead passes using HF TIG 4043 filler.

We noticed the sticker where the wheel was chrome plated by Kentucky Chrome Works.. we added our sticker to show it was repaired by ShaeleeFab!

The frame at the hitch had been repaired in the past and that repair had broken loose. With that allowed the floor and aluminum railing to flex and break in numerous locations.

The frame/hitch was repaired back to a solid state and all welding of the aluminum was performed with MIG due to the vast amount of cracks and the short time frame to repair. The factory frame size was 1/4” so 1/4” angle was used to repair the skirt boards for the aluminum framing. Heat from welding also discovered stress cracks in the hitch tubing which were cut out and repaired with SMAW low-hydrogen 7018.

Due to time constraints and the amount of repair needed, not as many before and after pictures as usual were taken on this one. Getting the trailer back on the road with a solid repair as soon as possible was the ultimate goal.

Cast aluminum can be of another level!

Any cast alloy is ugly and due to the natural impurities of cast, it can be extremely challenging to weld. However we enjoy challenges and were able to get this dirtbike engine case fixed up— the significantly cheaper option than purchasing a new case.

Crack repair on a couple Simplex hydraulic jack oil reservoir tanks.

Of any alloy, cast aluminum is one of the most tricky to weld due to its natural dirty properties.

Because of the nature of the cracks and surrounding damage, the initial cracks were cut out and an entire pad weld was performed with TIG to seal up any other areas of potential damage.
