Star SU’s partnership with Louis Bélet brings expanded micro tooling capabilities to manufacturers supporting high precision and small-part machining applications.

With more than 70 years of Swiss manufacturing experience, Louis Bélet’s portfolio is designed to support process stability and repeatable performance across demanding industries including medical, aerospace, automotive, and micromechanics.

For challenging materials such as stainless steels and superalloys, the CyclonX line combines optimized geometry and internal coolant delivery to support chip evacuation and consistent machining performance.

For abrasive material applications, Excalibur extends capability into solid PCD micro tooling where tool life, dimensional consistency, and burr reduction become critical to the manufacturing process.

Together, these technologies strengthen Star SU’s ability to support evolving manufacturing requirements through application-focused tooling solutions and technical support.

In gear manufacturing, overall performance is influenced by every stage of the process.

Hobbing establishes the fundamental gear tooth geometry, directly affecting profile accuracy, pitch, and overall part quality. Following the cutting operation, secondary processes such as chamfering remove burrs, control edge condition, and prepare the gear for handling, inspection, and downstream assembly.

When these operations are evaluated independently, variation introduced during cutting can carry through to finishing processes, impacting assembly fit, consistency, and final part performance. Misalignment between cutting and finishing requirements often leads to unnecessary process adjustments, variability, and reduced stability.

When hobbing and finishing operations are aligned with application requirements, manufacturers can achieve more predictable results, improved edge quality, and stable production output.

At Star SU, tooling solutions are developed with the complete application in mind, supporting consistent and repeatable performance across each stage of the gear manufacturing process.

As power skiving adoption continues to accelerate, the challenge is evolving.

What was once considered an advanced capability is becoming more widely implemented across global manufacturing. Increased adoption, however, does not guarantee consistent performance.

As more operations bring power skiving in house, differences in tooling, machine capability, and setup conditions become more visible. Small variations in cutter design, synchronization, and process control can directly impact stability, tool life, and final gear quality.

Power skiving is no longer just about enabling the process. It is about executing it consistently under real production conditions. This is where a system approach becomes critical.

Tool design, machine capability, application support, and consistent reconditioning quality must work together to maintain repeatable and stable performance over time.

As production scales, responsiveness also becomes part of that control. Access to high precision tooling with shorter lead times, supported through a global manufacturing presence, helps reduce disruption and keep processes aligned when adjustments are required.

As adoption grows, the difference is not who can run power skiving. It is who can run it well.

Connect with Star SU to discuss process stability and application support in power skiving.
