You can screen for liver disease without leaving the ultrasound room.

The Samsung R20 pairs QUS liver fat quantification with S-Shearwave stiffness imaging, so fat and stiffness are measured in the same exam on the same system.

For practices seeing more fatty liver cases, that's a practical first-line tool.

🔍🩺 Whiteboard Wednesday: Linear vs. Curved Ultrasound Probes — Which One Should You Use?

Choosing the right ultrasound probe isn't just about preference—it's about getting the best image for the anatomy you're scanning.

The biggest difference between a linear and a curved (curvilinear) probe comes down to one thing:

Pe*******on vs. Resolution.

📏 Linear Probe
✔️ Higher frequency
✔️ Exceptional image resolution
✔️ Best for superficial structures
Common applications:
• Thyroid exams
• Vascular studies
• Soft tissue
• MSK imaging
• Superficial veins
🌙 Curved (Curvilinear) Probe
✔️ Lower frequency
✔️ Greater depth pe*******on
✔️ Ideal for deeper anatomy

Common applications:
• Abdominal imaging
• Kidneys
• Pelvic exams
• Deep vessels
• Lower extremity vascular studies when greater depth is needed

Here's where it gets interesting...

Even during a thyroid exam, a curved probe may be the better choice if the thyroid sits deeper or the patient's anatomy requires additional pe*******on.

The same applies to vascular studies.

While a linear probe is typically used to evaluate superficial veins and arteries, a curved probe may be necessary when imaging deeper vessels or evaluating blood flow that can't be adequately visualized with a higher-frequency transducer.

The key is understanding the balance:

🔹 Linear = Better detail, less pe*******on
🔹 Curved = More pe*******on, slightly less detail
Selecting the right probe improves image quality, increases diagnostic confidence, and helps you complete exams more efficiently.

Ask a sonographer who has been scanning for fifteen years where it hurts. Most will say the wrist, then the shoulder.

The Samsung R20 meets or exceeds 100% of ergonomic guidelines. Its flex cables are thinner and lighter than conventional transducer cables, so there's less drag on the wrist over a full day of scanning.

MyTune adds a personal setup: presets, screen layout and backlighting load automatically when each user logs in.

Future of Diagnostic Ultrasound: AI, Cloud Imaging, and Wearable Technology

Diagnostic ultrasound is changing fast.

From an engineer’s perspective, three major trends are shaping where the industry is headed:

AI-assisted imaging

Artificial intelligence is becoming a bigger part of ultrasound. From helping identify patterns in tumors, veins, arteries, and other anatomy, to summarizing information across multiple exams and medical records, AI may help clinicians see connections faster and make more informed decisions.

Cloud-based storage
More practices are moving away from traditional local PACS-only workflows and toward cloud-based imaging and storage. This allows studies to be accessed securely from different locations, making it easier for physicians to review exams from the hospital, office, or home.

Portable and wearable ultrasound

Portable ultrasound continues to grow, and wearable ultrasound technology is beginning to emerge. These devices may allow longer-term monitoring, repeated imaging, and new ways to collect data over time. As these tools evolve, they will likely become more connected to AI and cloud-based platforms.

The future of diagnostic ultrasound is not just about better images. It is about smarter workflows, faster access to information, and technology that helps clinicians make better decisions for their patients.

At DUS Sales, we help practices understand where ultrasound technology is going and how to choose equipment that supports both today’s needs and tomorrow’s possibilities.

Same scan, two views. On the left is conventional imaging. On the right, the same needle with Needlemate+ turned on.

The Samsung V8 builds needle guidance into the system, alongside NerveTrack, which detects and traces nerves in real time. For injections, nerve blocks and other guided procedures, you get more confidence on every pass.

This is a thyroid nodule and its blood flow, imaged on the Samsung V8 with LumiFlow.

LumiFlow adds 3D-like depth to vascular imaging. On complex MSK and thyroid exams, that makes flow patterns easier to read and to explain to patients.

Pair it with S-Detect for automated thyroid nodule analysis, and the V8 handles endocrinology work as well as MSK.

Your ultrasound system is only part of the room.

DUS also supplies the non-ultrasound equipment around it: vital signs monitors (such as the Edan iM3), ECG machines, pulse oximeters, Dopplers, rechargeable exam lights, infrared thermometers, digital scales and blood pressure units, plus rolling carts, mounts and mobile stands.

Everything is available new or certified pre-owned. We test every device before it ships, so nothing arrives dead. We also help integrate it with your current setup, and you reach a real person for support, not a chatbot.

Outfitting a new exam room or mobile unit? Bundle it with your ultrasound system.
