SciTechDaily reports on the surprising discovery of new observations from a retrofitted U2 spy plane that reveal gamma radiation is produced in large tropical thunderstorms.

A retrofitted U2 spy plane owned by NASA flew over storms and revealed that these gamma rays are common in thunderstorms, manifesting in various forms and linked to the electrical activity within the storms

The radiation is not cause for concern however, as the amount of radiation being produced would only be dangerous if a person or object were quite close to the origination source.

Circuit breakers are electrical safety mechanisms, designed to protect an electrical circuit from either:

- Short-Circuiting

- Ground Faults
When there is too much moisture surrounding the circuit.
