2016 SMRT OPENING EVENT MOVES TO TRI-COUNTY MOTOR SPEEDWAY
April 1st is the New Opening Date for the Series Third Season

(King, NC): The season opener for the Southern Modified Race Tour has been moved to Tri-County Motor Speedway in Hudson, NC. The April 1st event marks the first of two trips to the great little track nestled in the foothills of western North Carolina. The series will return to the track on June 3rd as well. Support races for the TCMS event in April will include the area Street Stock and Renegade divisions along with the East Coast Flathead Ford Racing Association. Race time is 8:00 PM.

The move to Tri-County Motor Speedway happened due to some health issues of Carteret County Speedway owner, Bobby Watson. Bobby was diagnosed with cancer last fall and has been undergoing treatments that have kept him from devoting the time needed to prepare his track for such a big-ticket event to start his season. “He told me today that he has one more chemo treatment that will be followed by radiation treatments. He is very upbeat and his prognosis is favorable and we will return to CCS for our regular event on October 29th”, said SMRT Series Director, Randy Myers. “We all wish Bobby a speedy recovery and are looking forward to returning to his great track this Fall”, Myers said.

In addition to announcing the series move to TCMS for the April 1st event and the June 3rd race, SMRT has filled in the blank for the other April date on the tentative schedule. We will be going to another great track with a Modified history. Franklin County Speedway in Callaway, VA will welcome the “thunder” of the SMRT Modifieds on Sunday afternoon, April 24th. Moonshine Capital Promotions headed by Langley Austin has moved his feature events to Sunday afternoon racing and we will fall right in line with his 2016 program. The East Coast Flatheads and the tracks U-Cars will compete with the Modifieds. Don’t miss this great Sunday afternoon event. Race time is 3:00 PM.
