Two stroke tech tip, but it also applies to really anything with a fuel system that relies on vacuum and/or gravity to work. Before doing any jetting, fuel tuning, or troubleshooting air/fuel related running issues, you MUST make sure your engine and fuel system are leak free!! Had a small leak around the fuel inlet when I started adjusting the brass on the 500, and while minor, it will impact the jetting!! Anywhere fuel can leak out, air can get in thanks to the vacuum from the engine pulling on the system. Anywhere fuel fuel touches between the petcock and the piston, if you have a leak your engine can lean itself out! Two strokes have an additional air leak point that 4 strokes don’t in the ignition side crank seal because the fuel charge goes in the crank cavity before going into the cylinder. If you suddenly have to change and chase jetting and nothing about the bike has changed and the weather is relatively consistent, you aren’t chasing jetting; you’re chasing a leak!! *Not pictured is the zip ties I cut off already that I prefer to use over the stupid OEM spring clips and worm gear clamps; they seal better and are far easier to use!*
