When people think about metal roofing and siding, they often focus on the steel itself. But the paint system matters just as much.

The steel coil we use starts with a factory-applied coating system that is cleaned, treated, primed, painted, and oven-cured before it's ever formed into panels. Corrugated metal panels have been around for nearly 200 years.

The corrugation process (adding the waves or ridges) was patented in 1829 by Henry Robinson Palmer in England. The corrugated shape made thin sheets of metal much stronger without adding a lot of weight, which was a major breakthrough at the time.

By the mid-1800s, corrugated iron was being used worldwide for:

Farm buildings
Warehouses
Train stations
Military structures
Homes and businesses

In the United States, corrugated metal became especially popular in agricultural settings because it was durable, relatively affordable, and could withstand harsh weather.

We rolled out 50-foot standing seam panels right here at Yoder Metal. That’s a lot of steel in one continuous run — and definitely longer than what most jobs require.

Long panels like these can help reduce seams, improve water shedding, and give a roof that clean, uninterrupted look. They also take some careful handling from the shop to the job site!
