What a great space for families of Harrisonburg/Rockingham to use for many years to come!

The excitement was palpable at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Kids Castle, as developed by the City of Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation. Monteverde Engineering & Design Studio collaborated on the design with the fine folks at LSG Landscape Architecture, with final ex*****on performed by the wonderful team at Harman Construction, Inc.

We are big fans of the Shenandoah Rail Trail and are ecstatic over the latest report released by VDOT identifying the estimated costs associated with each option. SRT couldn’t have said it better…”Rail-to-Trail provides the most benefits for the most people, for the least money, in the shortest time.”

We were thrilled to help SRT visually communicate this vision through conceptual design renderings. The section of trail shown here illustrates a scenario where short segments of the proposed trail could maintain remnants of the former rail, providing a great opportunity for story-telling and education around the history of the railway. Preservation of short sections of railway offers a unique opportunity to integrate materials of the past with the needs of today.

We have been hard at work with Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation, LSG Landscape Architecture, and Harman Construction, Inc. in helping design an exciting and new community experience at the beloved Kids Castle at Purcell Park. At the same time, we acknowledge all of the special moments and memories that have been had at the existing Kids Castle - whether it was by helping build this local landmark back in 1990, playing here throughout your childhood, or as a parent who watches their children play here today. We are encouraged by the community support in this new chapter of Kids Castle and believe that the realm of imagination that was created in 1990 will only grow as new generations experience new memories with new stories to tell!

We are thrilled to see the recent approval made by Harrisonburg City Council for this DOWNTOWN PARK! We have thoroughly enjoyed leading the design efforts for this vision plan and can’t think of a better group of community-driven advocates to see this park become a reality in the very near future Build Our Park!

There is something special happening in downtown Harrisonburg and we are grateful to be able to partner and walk alongside some of the best individuals and organizations there are!

Organizers said the project is expected to cost around $2 million and take between two to three years to complete.

We are thrilled to see this project begin construction! This facility has been anticipated for some time and will improve safety and reduce response times throughout the City, all while positioning the Friendly City towards a healthy and sustainable growth moving forward!

Thanks Harrisonburg Public Works for the extremely informative site visit this week! We have been enjoying our time with the talented JMU Architectural Design students and look forward to continued collaboration and teamwork between City Staff and JMU!
