On this day in cooperative history, Rockingham Cooperative Farm Bureau hosted the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting in 1925. Over 40 counties sent representatives to the Harrisonburg area to attend and Rockingham Cooperative's success as a cooperative business model was on full display.

During these early years Rockingham Cooperative leadership also provided key leadership at the state level to spread information and resources to their fellow cooperative's just forming.

Spring is basically here for our agronomy team and that means field work is picking up. Today we’re honoring an important leader who’s helped shape Rockingham Cooperative into the organization it is today. After years of service, strong leadership, and steady dedication to our community, Matt Deitz is retiring as COO.

Matt’s story with us goes back to 1998 when he opened and ran Verona Ace Hardware, building relationships and earning respect across Augusta County. When Rockingham Cooperative acquired Verona Ace in 2019, Matt came onboard and brought that same passion for service with him. In 2023 he stepped into the role of COO, focusing on operations and supporting our teams to serve members and customers better every day.

We’re thankful for everything Matt has done and his impact will last across the cooperative. Read more about Matt’s journey and join us in wishing him well in retirement:

Winter weather doesn’t slow chores down, but it can change how we need to plan for them.

As colder, wetter conditions move in, now’s a good time to think ahead about feed and grain needs, delivery timing, and working safely around equipment when conditions aren’t ideal.

We put together a short blog for producers with reminders on getting feed lined up ahead of the forecast, slowing things down around cold and slick equipment, and how we’re working to continue supplying our customers while keeping everyone safe during winter weather.

Winter weather is expected to move in late Saturday night into Sunday.

Before it arrives, it’s a good time to think through what you’d want on hand if you end up staying home longer than planned and what you’ll need ready once it’s time to clean up after the storm.

We put together a practical blog with reminders on winter prep, and most of the supplies mentioned are available at your local Rockingham Cooperative store. Our team is here to help you get set before the weather turns.
