Good evening!

I repaired a quick coupler off a John Deere excavator

It had been repaired several times in the field

The additional plates that were added had cracked, along with several other cracks

I gouged the old plates off, chased down the cracks, and then i began putting it back together

Fit these 1/2 inch plates around the pin bosses

I wanted them close, but not touching

Good evening!

I finished that 345 bucket repair today

Moved onto the boom of a different 345

It has a few cracks that need some attention before it goes back into service

I was in the process of gouging when suddenly things took a turn for the worse

My compressor was acting up

I put everything on hold, mostly because I cant gouge without air

Then I changed the oil, the spark plug, cleaned the fuel bowl and put some seafoam in the tank. I also have a new air filter coming tomorrow

It seems to be running better now. Im not truly sure what happened but it wasnt happy

We'll pick up where we left off tomorrow!

Good afternoon!

Ive started to address the crack on this 345 bucket

This going on a yard machine and mostly handles fill

No digging of solid materials, ledge or really excessive hard use

If this was a field machine the cutting lip would be replaced

In this case, considering the shanks are tight and the bucket was recently rebuilt were going to just address the crack

What caused this was welding the new shanks on all the way to the end of the cutting lip and not staying further back

Once I finish welding this side I will back gouge to my root pass and weld it out from the backside

Called it a day early today so I could enjoy some time with George!

Good evening!

The boom repair is complete!

Don't mind the hammer marks, the side of the boom is not flat. We had to use the ole heat it and beat technique for the appropriate fit

The gentleman here are going to put a nice coat of paint on it

I also installed side cutters on the 321 bucket

It is complete now

Next up, a cat 345 bucket!

Good evening!

We made some headway on the 315 today

This machine is from the 90's, this isnt its first time around the sun

A crack developed on the toe of one of the welds

I gouge both plates off to expose the old repair as well as the new Crack

The old repair is still holding, I chose to leave it alone

There is also another patch plate similar to the one I removed, Its not showing any signs of fatigue so I left that alone as well

I gouged out the crack entirely

Put a 1/4" x 2 piece of flat bar inside as a backer bar and filled it in

Then I made some patch plates

Tomorrow they'll get welded out

Good afternoon!

The 321 bucket is just about complete

I finished welding the shanks on

I also put 2 more wear bars on

One on the inside to protect the seam of the new bottom and one on the outside to protect it from that side

The weld gets worn down from both sides

Which usually then leads to a crack forming

Im hoping by completely protecting it that it will last longer

Tomorrow we start on the CAT 315 boom repair

Good evening!

I worked on the 321 bucket today

Im guessing about a half day more and it'll be done

Today's the first day I really did any welding on it

I put about 30 pounds of wire into it

It should ideally get some new side cutters because at this point the sides are pretty worn

Aside from that it should be back in action soon!
