In addition to lifting your home above the 100-year base flood elevation, ensuring that ditches and storm drains are clear of debris is a great way to help reduce your home's risk of flooding. Follow Louisiana Floodplain Management Association - LFMA to stay up-to-date on flood related topics and also find helpful links for further information on all of the flood awareness week themes discussed this week.

Protection from flood events starts with knowing your risk. The critical facilities in these photos were constructed at an elevation at least one foot above the 100-year base flood elevation, but understanding the risk to these structures from flood events that exceed those levels allowed us to provide protection to this area in advance of the projected crest. Do you know your risk? Just one inch of water in a home can cause more than $25,000 in damages. Visit https://www.floodsmart.gov/cost-flooding for helpful information about flood risks and protecting your property.
