LAWN MOWERS: It's that time of year to get the mower out and make sure it starts, runs and cuts. BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE MAKE SURE IT HAS THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF OIL IN IT, NOT TOO HIGH, NOT TOO LOW. Every year I get 2 or 3 mowers that come in with destroyed motors because either they were run without oil in them or they were run with a mouse nest on the motor and overheated and blew up. Which brings me to my second point- check around the engine cover for what could be a mouse nest, which may be a bit of grass sticking out from under it or any of any other substance. It is not unusual to have a few blades of grass sticking out but if you have more than that or if you have any foreign substance sticking out it is time to determine if it is a mouse nest. If it is it needs to be removed ASAP.
