I was greatly honored to be a small part of this project, creating the metal structures to display the informational signage. If you are local, this is a must-see!
The following is from the Grand Opening Event:
“The newly recommissioned USS Cincinnati “docks” beside an observation platform and reflecting pond in front of the Voice of America Museum. This open-air, full-size replica features pieces from the actual Cold War era nuclear submarine, which were donated by the US Navy. They include the conning tower, the rear rudder and the reserve generator, which was aptly dubbed “The Big Red Machine.”
The vessel spent 18 years at sea, starting Feb. 19, 1977. A dedicated group of volunteers brought the project to life with an effort that has take over a decade. “
