How can we streamline identification of Alzheimer’s patients who are good candidates for anti-amyloid therapies—while keeping care close to home?
In a new Diagnostic Imaging interview, Tammie Benzinger, MD, PhD, shares research using the Swoop® AI-powered portable MRI system to screen patients directly in community and rural clinics. The goal: detect white matter lesions that may make a patient ineligible for anti-amyloid Alzheimer’s treatments.
Her findings:
“This low-field scanner did a great job at quantifying and identifying those features. So right away we are seeing we can use this as a first step in screening potentially out in rural locations, at your primary care, or your general neurologist.”
This research is an exciting step forward toward a future where Alzheimer’s diagnosis and treatment decisions happen faster and closer to home. Congratulations to Dr. Benzinger and her team for pioneering research that could transform Alzheimer’s care for patients everywhere.

In a recent interview, Tammie Benzinger, M.D., Ph.D., discussed the utility of portable low-field MRI to help identify patients in remote settings who may be viable candidates for subsequent MRI workup and consideration for new anti-amyloid therapies in treating Alzheimer’s disease.
