Core Responsibilities
• Transaction Management: Operating cash registers and Point of Sale (POS) systems to accurately scan items, tally prices, and process cash, credit card, mobile, or check payments.
• Financial Accuracy: Balancing the cash drawer at the start and end of every shift by counting opening/closing funds and reporting any discrepancies.
• Customer Care: Greeting incoming guests, answering questions regarding store policies or promotions, bagging items, and processing returns and exchanges.
• Station Maintenance: Keeping the checkout lanes clean, stocked with receipt paper and bags, and assisting with nearby shelf stocking or front-facing inventory during down periods.
Essential Skills
• Basic Mathematics: The ability to perform quick, accurate addition and subtraction to make correct change and verify transactions.
• Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Maintaining a warm, patient demeanor under pressure, actively listening to customers, and diffusing minor complaints or checkout delays.
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with modern scanners, digital payment scales, card readers, and basic computerized POS systems.
• Attention to Detail: Precision in identifying price mismatches, spotting counterfeit bills, and carefully logging coupons or loyalty discounts
