A little preparation can help keep vehicle doors, weatherstripping, and locks working when ice arrives.

Before the temperature drops:

✅ Clean dirt and moisture from the door seals
✅ Wipe the rubber with a silicone lubricant made for automotive weatherstripping
✅ Lubricate key cylinders with a lock-safe product
✅ Make sure the mechanical key actually opens the door
✅ Keep lock de-icer in the house, garage, or coat pocket—not inside the locked vehicle

If a door freezes shut, don’t yank the handle, force the key, or pour hot water over the lock. You may damage the handle, seal, or glass—and the water can refreeze.
