We received this Motorpal injection pump on a Deutz engine for service. The customer said the engine had originally cranked and ran but had setup for some time and now would not crank. Upon dis-assembly our tech had found the pump had stuck pumping units due to fuel contamination. The tech had to drive them apart to get the plunger out. Notice the contaminated fuel on the plunger, at the end of the plunger, and on the return valve. The plungers were stuck in a position that left the springs compressed on the pumping unit. With the plungers stuck, the injection pump could not pump fuel and caused an engine no start issue.

This turbocharger had some oil supply, but not enough. This damaged occurred after initial startup of the engine on a rebuilt engine. The oil line could have been restricted causing and lack of good oil supply. The shaft is blue from excessive heat and lack of lubrication. Notice the circular spots on the shaft. This appears on the turbine wheel after a hot shut down. The bearing stops and there is no oil being fed to the bearing. The heat makes this mark on the shaft. Also see the scoring where the bearing has failed from lack of oil.

This CAT turbo failed due to a foreign object entering the turbo on the air intake side. While the turbo is spinning, the object hits the turbo fins on top of of the fins and will do so until the turbo intake wheel breaks or the object is crushed enough to let the pieces into the engine. This turbo wheel did not break and did continue to spin. Continued running of this engine and turbo would have made the wheel break due to the in-balance and damage on the intake wheel fins. This turbo failed due to FOD, Foreign Object Damage.
