✨Story Time✨
How Gateway Paint Center was Built
Four years ago, if you had asked us what our “together business” goal was, the answer would have been:
Help people.
Learn more.
Work hard.
Build a store we could be proud of.
At that time, Heath had already went out on his on from a construction company and started a painting business on his own and stayed true with Benjamin Moore products.
We weren't store owners at that time, I had come on to help out on the weekends after starting my new education in color consulting.
For several years we were simply trying to find our place in the paint industry.
I had Benjamin Moore color consulting bags and my own set up for helping him paint.
For us, we saw something different that we liked more, Shop keepers is what I call it.
Heath had went to college for retail business management and had been GM’s of worldwide known corporations in the sporting and men’s clothing industry years ago,
I loved the idea of operating a shop and had dreamed of something in that realm my whole life. But I never thought I’d be in paint.
We took a chance when we could but at the time selling Benjamin Moore was unattainable for the area we wanted to be in.
So we welcome the opportunity to sell other paint brands. Looking back it’s amazing how much we have learned about so many companies.
We hit the pavement hard promoting learning and sharing color advice, talked about paint, application, the different brands, products, answering questions, and trying to help homeowners and contractors make confident decisions.
✨ Then one day it was time for us to pivot.
We had revisited Benjamin Moore and found out that if we were willing to make some changes, we could move forward with the brand we wanted four years prior.
Then something unexpected happened.
As we began the process of becoming a Benjamin Moore retailer, we started meeting people from across the company and from independent paint stores around the country. More than once, someone would say, "Oh, we know who you are."
Honestly, I was stunned.
For years, I had no idea that people beyond our local community were following our journey.
That experience taught me something important: you never really know who's watching your work.
Sometimes the opportunities that change your life aren't created in a single moment.
They're built quietly over years of showing up, helping people, learning your craft, and doing the work when nobody is applauding.
Gateway Paint Center didn't happen overnight.
It was years in the making.
And we're incredibly grateful to finally be here.
