Last Friday was the perfect day for our annual EEA outing! Great weather and great company as we enjoyed a Wendella architectural boat tour on the Chicago River. We capped the day with a wonderful lunch at Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse, and we're already looking forward to next year!

It seems like only yesterday that we opened our doors in Wisconsin, but this week we are proud to celebrate the third anniversary of our downtown Milwaukee office! It has been a great experience joining the Milwaukee A/E/C community, and we have enjoyed seeing our project portfolio grow over the last few years. A big thank you goes out to our Wisconsin team for working tirelessly in the Milwaukee office! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for them next.

A foundation permit has been issued for 150 E. Ontario, which is located in the Streeterville neighborhood of downtown Chicago, not far from the Magnificent Mile. The classic styled, 28-story hotel building will be one of four properties Spanish hotel chain RIU Hotels and Resorts will construct in the United States. The Prime Group, Inc. is the developer for this project and Lucien Lagrange Studio serves as the architect. Eriksson Engineering Associates is excited to join the team as a civil engineering subconsultant.

A foundation permit has been issued for a new hotel at 150 E Ontario Street, kicking off the first high rise to be built in Streeterville in several years.

Working with District 72, ARCON Associates, Inc., Frederick Quinn Corporation, Elara Engineering and ML Structural, PLLC, EEA is providing landscape architecture, civil engineering, traffic engineering and parking consulting services.

Earlier this summer, Eriksson Engineering Associates welcomed three civil engineering interns to the firm. Gabi Walters (Iowa State University), Connor Dees (Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), and Eryk Grabowski (Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) are always enthusiastic, curious, and ready to assist. We are lucky to have them on board, and glad we could provide a hands-on, civil engineering learning experience.

Ravenswood Senior Living has been in the spotlight! This exciting renovation and adaptive reuse project was recently featured in Retrofit magazine, in addition to receiving a nomination for top redevelopment project at the RE Journals 2022 IREJ Awards.

Eriksson Engineering Associates is proud to have worked with WJW Architects as a civil engineering subconsultant, in addition to Evergreen Real Estate Group, and the Chicago Housing Authority, to provide badly needed low-income housing options for seniors in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood. Ravenswood Senior Living offers a choice of independent and assisted living with the hope that residents can age in place, and stay in a neighborhood that many have called home for most of their lives

The development, which was completed in May 2021, shows how adaptive reuse can not only invigorate a rundown building but also help improve the lives of a community in need. Read more about this innovative project in the article below.

The former Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago has been given new life as Ravenswood Senior Living, creating badly needed affordable housing in a desirable neighborhood that is largely out of reach for low-income seniors, including many who have lived most of their lives in the area.

Construction at the new Black Hawk College ballfield complex is underway! Softball and baseball players will have new fields to play on, and the complex will significantly improve the experience for student-athletes, coaches, and fans. Phase one includes moving the softball field from the east side of the campus to the west side, in addition to adding batting cages and installing artificial turf on both fields. Phase two of the project, which is slated to begin in the spring of 2023, will include restrooms, a concession booth, and press boxes.

We can’t wait to see the game-changing results this project will surely have on Black Hawk College. Read more about the ballfield complex below.

We had a great time hitting the links to play a round at Cantigny Golf Course while networking with school business officials from districts across the state. EEA recently attended a topping off event for 166 N. Aberdeen in Chicago’s Fulton Market District. It’s exciting to see construction progress on this 21-story mixed-use building. Comprised of 224 rental units and ground-level retail, 166 N. Aberdeen will feature 70 parking spaces, as well as a fitness center, swimming pool, outdoor lounge, and co-working space.
