We’re excited to be working with the Kent County Parks Department on the Northland Drive Pedestrian Tunnel, a project designed to create a safer connection across one of northern Kent County’s busiest roads while strengthening the region’s growing trail network. Once complete, the tunnel will connect the South Rogue River Trail with the Grand River Greenway, helping to close an important gap in a larger trail corridor through Kent County, Michigan. The project will give pedestrians and cyclists a safer way to cross Northland Drive while improving access between communities and recreational destinations.

Bringing the project to life has involved coordination between Kent County Parks, Plainfield Charter Township, the Michigan Department of Transportation, the Kent County Road Commission, and other project partners. Prein&Newhof provided engineering design for the approximately 150-foot tunnel and continues to support the project throughout construction. Construction is now well underway, with the first precast concrete tunnel sections recently arriving on site and installation progressing beneath Northland Drive.

We’re looking forward to seeing this connection take shape and to help create a trail system that will serve the community for years to come!

The City of Hart’s BioPure Facility plays an important role in supporting both the community and the local food processing industry. Over the past several years, the City has made a major investment in the facility to improve reliability and increase treatment capacity to better handle the uniquely strong wastewater generated by local food processors. The completed improvements help position Hart’s wastewater system to continue serving the community and supporting economic development well into the future.

Congratulations to the City of Hart on two exciting milestones for the community! Last week, Hart celebrated ribbon cuttings for the completed BioPure Facility and the new Hart Plaza.

The BioPure improvements strengthen the City’s wastewater treatment system, increasing capacity and reliability while supporting the local food processing industry and the economic development it provides. The Hart Plaza project has transformed 36,000 square feet of downtown public space into a welcoming destination for community events and everyday enjoyment. While very different projects, both represent significant investments in Hart’s future and reflect the City’s continued commitment to strengthening its infrastructure while creating new opportunities for the community to grow and thrive.

We’re grateful to have partnered with the City of Hart on both projects and enjoyed celebrating alongside the many people who helped bring them to life. We’re excited to be part of this important Safe Routes to School project and help create safer, more accessible connections for students and families throughout East Bay Township!

East Bay Township will begin construction on August 3 for the Safe Routes to School Project, a nearly $2.7 million investment. This initiative, engineered by Prein & Newhof, will create 1.6 miles of new non-motorized infrastructure to improve safety for more than 2,400 students attending four East Bay Township schools.
