Blast to the past! Drag racing is a huge part of Lyons history (and forever in our blood) so it was very cool to see these pics of John’s ‘68 Camaro pop up on the High and Mighty Drag Racing group! The entire family participated in it one way or another… many long lasting friendships were made…tons of good memories of peeps coming in the store to ‘bench race’…and the guys always thrashing on their cars in the shop! (Did someone really do a burnout in the shop and crash into the big door?🤦‍♀️🤫) The top pic is at Amber Green (Rock Falls Raceway) in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Bottom left is at Thunder Valley near Sioux Falls, SD, and lower right is in Brainerd, Mn. Photo credit to CJS Racing Photos! ❤️❤️

Full heart post comin’ up! ❤️ A little over 2 years ago we shared a video of the 1933 Franklin being hoisted into the air and gently guided to her new resting place in the beautiful Franklin on 4th building. You may remember that in the early 1900’s Lyons sold Franklin Motor Cars. This Franklin was the last one sold out of Lyons. It eventually made its way back to the family and remained in the Lyons shop for years. After being placed in Franklin on 4th, it was immediately enclosed to protect it from ongoing construction. With the project nearly complete.. residential, commercial and retail all going strong … the Franklin has been unveiled! We could not be more proud! ❤️

Wowza. Yesterday we got together with an old friend. To my surprise he brought me a copy… June 1982 … of the Greater Grand Forks Explorer. For those that don’t remember, GGF Explorer was a “magazine of interest to all reflecting the good life in the Greater Grand Forks area.” This particular issue had an article and pictures about John, and partner Reed, and their drag racing experience! So cool! I screen shot as best I can for anyone who wants to read it. Hope you’re all doing well. Have a great Thanksgiving week! 😍

Blast to the Past! T-Shirt seen at last week’s Downtown Cruz event! Who remembers? Better yet… who still has one? 😍

This new fender cover was recently found buried in a box, so it only seemed fitting to grab a pic of it yesterday at the Rydell Car Show. Btw… guess who won Participants Choice award? So proud! For sure Jim is smiling. ❤️❤️

This old Willard clock hung on the wall in the shop for years but no luck finding a picture of that. In 2018 it went to a good home… got some tlc … and look at it shine now! Love hearing from folks who have a treasured piece of Lyons.

In 1978, the wrecker from Highway Host Standard pulled up in front of Lyons… a 383 Mopar dangling from the boom. In walked a young man, Reed Otto, who said to John.. “I want you to build me a motor”. The motor was for Reed’s drag car.. a 1971 Charger named Blue Bayou. John was never a Mopar guy but he didn’t hold that against him. And that was the beginning of a very long… and treasured…friendship. Eventually, in 1981, they partnered up and bought the Reher and Morrison small block for John’s ‘68 Camaro. Reed was a solid partner and together they put on many miles and made a lot of noise at the track. (And you have often heard me refer to Dad as ‘Papa Drag’. It was Reed who installed the CB radio in Dad’s car and gave him that call handle.) As the years went by their love of drag racing never waned. They kept in touch, often gathering to watch the drags on TV. Reed was a big, strong, stand-up guy who took crap from no one. He always called it as he saw it. Reed passed away recently and last week we said goodbye. We are forever blessed to call him friend and he will be so missed! Photos courtesy of Reed’s wife.
