Montalvo Corporation recently hosted teachers from the Gorham School system for a facility tour and fact-finding visit at our Gorham Industrial Park location.
During the visit, educators met with President Ed Montalvo, our engineering, machining, and sales & marketing teams. Novolex, a laminator of foil and paper packaging materials, was experiencing tension control issues due to outdated manual tension controls. To address the problem, we supplied new V-Series brakes, U-style load cells, a range expander, and a Z4 controller. The upgrade delivered immediate results, including reduced scrap, higher line speeds, and improved process repeatability. The success of the project led Novolex to upgrade additional lines with the same solution. With startup support from Montalvo technicians, the lines were producing quality product from day one.

One of the top issues in processes today are systems and solutions that nobody understands. I’ve been in dozens of plants where I hear the same story. “We had a guy that was great with this machine, and he created this custom solution for us, but now he’s retired and no one knows how any of it goes together!” I think Montalvo control products are the better solution because of how standardized and documented everything is. When I was an Onsite Installation and Service Tech (https://hubs.la/Q04snMvQ0) with Montalvo, a customer was having real issues with their turret unwind. It was dancer control with a high-speed flying splice. After speaking on the phone, we decided an onsite visit was the fastest resolution to their problems. I was on a plane the next day! After a day and a half of mechanical rebuild and tuning of our controller, they were back up and running better than ever.

We recently heard from a customer whose Load Cells — estimated to have been produced in the late 1980s to early 1990s — are finally due for replacement. That's decades of reliable service, and a remarkable testament to the durability built into every unit.
