Founded by Robert L. Wiggins in 1954, General Industries began with one manufacturing plant that served North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia areas with heating oil tanks. In 1978, the founder’s son, John (Tommy) Wiggins was named president following his father’s death. He has

grown the business into one of the leading tank manufacturers in the industry. As a licensed manufacturer of the Steel Tank Institute and a Petroleum Institute member, General Industries specializes in custom stainless and carbon steel tank fabrications from 50 gallons to 75,000 gallons. We are labeled and listed for above ground and underground tanks per UL, STI, API, and ASME. General Industries works with companies in the petroleum, chemical, water, and waste water industries. As a certified ISO 9001 Quality System company, maintaining the highest standards to produce quality products for customers is our number one goal.

We had a great time attending the 28th Annual International Aboveground Storage Tank Conference & Trade Show (NISTM) in Orlando last week.

A special thank you to everyone who stopped by to meet with David Hurtado of Specified.works and Jack Kirkmyer of General Industries during the event. We truly enjoyed the conversations and look forward to continuing those relationships moving forward.

It was a pleasure connecting with so many professionals across the storage tank, petroleum, and industrial infrastructure industries and having meaningful conversations about the challenges organizations are facing in today’s market. Events like NISTM are always a great reminder of how valuable in-person collaboration and industry relationships continue to be.

At the show, General Industries highlighted our ability to design and fabricate large, customized petroleum storage tanks built to customer specifications and industry standards. We appreciated the opportunity to speak with attendees about current projects, operational needs, and future planning initiatives.

Our Coating Team just wrapped up painting a 50K Fireguard tank, delivering top-tier protection and a clean, professional finish. Projects like this are all about precision, safety, and teamwork—and our crew nailed it from start to finish.

Next up: labeling the tank to get it fully finished and ready to ship.
