Most metal fab shops do not lose money from the obvious failures; those usually get noticed fast. What hurts margins more are the small things that seem harmless in the moment, like a setup that runs a little long, an extra adjustment before the batch starts, or a job that finishes just outside the quoted time.

None of it feels like a major problem on its own, but across a year, those minutes add up quietly and consistently until they start cutting into profit.
