Public service announcement.

I have noticed this more and more with new out of the package drill bits that you can buy in a store, the angles are all wrong. I will openly admit, as previously shown in another post, I buy cheap tools if I have limited use for them. This one had to drill only four holes. Somehow, out of the package, the clearance angle was negative compared to the cutting edge, which prevents the drill bit from biting in and removing metal, it only builds heat and removes the temper. This has happened to me way too often in recent drill bit sets and drill bits. I can only imagine that some inexperienced people in drill angles would wonder why the drill bit they just bought isn't working. Come on manufacturers, please do some quality control. Everyone else, please check them before use and find a local grinding friend. YouTube also has videos showing how to fix these by hand on a bench grinder.

I do sharpen tools like this on a Tool and Die grinder, but I shouldn't have to do this to brand new out of the package items.

Helped a young sailor out today, when I saw his hood was up and heard it trying to start, by getting his truck fixed. Put in an inline fuel pump and made some wiring connections to get him home.

There is a common misconception that most of today's items cannot be repaired or rebuilt. This is also true of many companies selling the fact that many items cannot be repaired except by specialized equipment. Take saw blades for instance, why are we tossing them after they are dull? Why don't we try resharpening them?

This washer was flashing no codes, would not start, and the owners were worried it would have to be replaced, eating into their family budget. I offered to take a look and low and behold, instead of wasting their money as well as valuable carbon emissions for building and shipping a new washer to their house, it came down to replacing a faulty £5 switch.
