If you use a wheelchair—or if you care for someone who does—you've probably heard of pressure sores, which are skin injuries that can form when there's too much pressure on an area for too long.
Here are a few tips for preventing pressure sores in a wheelchair:
▪️ Change positions regularly to help relieve pressure on high-risk areas like the tailbone and hips.
▪️ Use cushions specifically designed for pressure relief.
▪️ Wash and dry your skin every day, and keep an eye out for redness or irritation.
▪️ Drink plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet to give your body the building blocks it needs to repair damage.
▪️ Wear comfortable, breathable clothing while avoiding tight waistbands, bulky seams, or materials that trap heat and moisture.
▪️ Stay active when you can to keep blood flowing to your skin and muscles. Small exercises like stretching and leg lifts can boost circulation.

As the weather gets warmer, spending time outdoors is a great way to boost mood, confidence, and overall wellbeing...but it can present some challenges for those who rely on mobility devices.

These tips can help you enjoy your time outside:

▪️ Check the terrain ahead of time and stick to smooth, well-maintained paths.
▪️ Be on the lookout for uneven surfaces like cracks, gravel, or grass that may affect stability.
▪️ Make sure your equipment is in good working condition by checking your tires, brakes, and supports.
▪️ Dress for the weather. Wear moisture-wicking fabrics that pull sweat away from the skin, reducing friction and irritation.

The right equipment, preparation, and support can help you enjoy the outdoors.

March is National Nutrition Month! 🍎

This month we're focusing on how the foods we eat support overall health, energy, and recovery—especially for those using mobility equipment or navigation rehabilitation.

Nutrition plays an important role in muscle strength, skin health, energy levels, and healing. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

▪️ Eat breakfast within two hours of waking up.
▪️ Aim for balance by including fruits, vegetables, protein, and whole grains throughout the day.
▪️ Incorporate lean protein into each meal.
▪️ Stay hydrated, even if activity levels look different day to day.
▪️ Maintain a consistent eating schedule to support energy and healing.
▪️ Choose foods that work best for your needs and routine.

Your custom equipment is an investment in your independence, which means a little routine care goes a long way in keeping things in perfect working condition. Here are a few simple tips to extending the life of your mobility device:

✅ Keep it clean. Wiping your equipment down can prevent dirt buildup that may result in wear on moving parts. Note: Avoid moisture near electrical components.
✅ Regularly inspect for wear and tear and take note of loose screws, damaged upholstery, cracked components, or frayed cables. Catching issues early can prevent costly repairs later.
✅ Charge your batteries overnight and store at room temperature.
✅ Keep your tires inflated and replace worn treads.
✅ Schedule routine professional tune-ups.
