Summer heat affects more than comfort levels—it can impact your home's structure as well.

Extended periods of heat and dry weather can cause soil to shrink, creating movement around foundations and structural components. Seasonal expansion and contraction can also place stress on building materials over time.

Some signs worth watching for include:
• New wall or ceiling cracks
• Sticking doors and windows
• Soil pulling away from foundations
• Water pooling near the structure
• Uneven floors

Not every symptom indicates a serious issue, but identifying potential concerns early can help prevent larger repairs later.
If something doesn't look right, a professional evaluation can provide peace of mind.

The highest-quality projects start long before construction begins. Today, more developers, builders, and owners are bringing engineering and design teams into projects earlier than ever before—and for good reason.

Early collaboration can help:
✔ Reduce costly revisions
✔ Improve coordination between teams
✔ Streamline permitting
✔ Minimize delays during construction
✔ Create a clearer path from concept to completion

The most successful projects aren't accidental. They're planned intentionally from the beginning. If you're evaluating a future project, involving engineering early may save significant time and money later.

Not all cracks are cause for concern—but some can be signs of underlying structural movement.

Cracks can develop for many reasons, including foundation settlement, moisture fluctuations, soil movement, or changes in load distribution throughout a structure.

The key is understanding why they're occurring before they become larger and more expensive issues to address.

If you've noticed new cracks in drywall, masonry, ceilings, or concrete, it may be worth having them evaluated by a structural professional.

Early assessment can often help identify potential concerns before significant repairs are needed.

Have questions about cracks in your home or commercial building? Our team is here to help.

Last month, our team had the pleasure of rolling up our sleeves in a different way at the Kairos Encounter Clay Shoot in support of Spirit First.

We were also proud to partner with Hobel Designs to provide a conceptual design for a new event space that could support future gatherings and outreach efforts.

Grateful for opportunities to give back and connect with the communities we serve.

Some projects are straightforward. Others require balancing history, vision, and modern building requirements.

This project began with a 70–80-year-old home in Knightdale, NC that had undergone multiple renovations and additions over the decades. The new owner was drawn to the property's unique architectural character and envisioned transforming it into a high-end restaurant while preserving the charm that made it special in the first place.

That vision came with significant structural challenges.

To meet current commercial building code requirements while maintaining the home's existing appearance, our team developed a comprehensive structural solution that ultimately required rebuilding the foundation, replacing the interior structural framing system, and engineering connections between the new and existing construction—all while preserving the exterior walls and architectural character of the building.

In addition to the structural renovation, we designed a new rear dining deck and provided ongoing site assessments and inspections throughout the project as conditions evolved during construction.

Projects like this highlight the value of thoughtful engineering—not simply replacing what's there, but finding practical ways to preserve what matters while creating a structure that can safely serve its next chapter for decades to come.

From adaptive reuse projects to complex renovations, Tyndall Engineering & Design helps bring ambitious visions to life through practical engineering solutions and collaborative problem-solving.

If you're planning a commercial build, renovation, or development project, reach out to Allen Robson at 704-294-9545 to explore how our team can help bring your vision to life.

The way projects come together is changing.

More builders, developers, and owners are looking for something different than they were even a few years ago — not just individual services, but teams that can work together from the start.

We’re seeing a growing demand for more collaborative, streamlined approaches where engineering, design, and real-world ex*****on are aligned early in the process.

Why?

Because when those pieces come together upfront, projects tend to move faster, with fewer surprises and less rework along the way.

Across a range of project types — from pre-engineered metal buildings to amenity spaces and specialty facilities — that early alignment is often the difference between a smooth build and a challenging one.

It’s not about doing more.
It’s about doing it smarter from the beginning.

Work smarter, not harder. The smartest builds start with the right engineering. Let’s talk.
