The Architect

The Architect Since 1998, The Architect, LLC has provided architectural planning and design services throughout Western Kansas.

We create thoughtful, practical solutions for civic, commercial, educational, healthcare, and community-focused projects. The Architect, LLC was established in 1998 by Bruce R. Glass, AIA, as a sole proprietorship providing architectural planning and design services throughout Western Kansas. In January 2022, the firm transitioned to The Architect, LLC when Manuel F. Ortiz became a partner, bringi

ng over 25 years of construction and project management experience to the practice. Bruce has practiced architecture in Garden City for nearly five decades and has spent more than 40 years as a principal or partner in local architectural firms. Manuel joined The Architect in February 2014 after collaborating with Bruce on projects for nearly a decade, creating a strong professional relationship built on trust and shared values. In 2026, Daniela Ortiz-Perez joined the firm after graduating from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Daniela brings fresh ideas, technical proficiency, and a strong desire to grow within the profession. Working alongside Bruce and Manuel, she is gaining valuable experience in design development, construction documentation, project coordination, and field observations as she begins her architectural career. Together, our team has played a key role in the successful planning, design, and construction of numerous new construction and renovation projects throughout the region. Our portfolio includes civic, educational, recreational, healthcare, commercial, nonprofit, industrial, financial, public safety, and historic preservation projects. Our approach to architecture is straightforward: listen first. We believe successful projects begin by understanding our clients' vision, goals, operational needs, and budget. Through open communication and early collaboration with engineering consultants, specialty consultants, and construction managers, we develop practical, creative, and cost-effective solutions tailored to each client's unique project. The Architect, LLC utilizes industry-leading technology, including Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, to produce accurate, coordinated Building Information Models (BIM) and construction documents that meet current industry standards. Our collaborative, partner-led approach allows us to provide responsive service, thoughtful design, and lasting value from concept through construction. Our staff is intentionally sized to provide personalized attention while remaining flexible to meet project demands. The firm is comprised of one licensed architect, one partner/project manager, one architectural designer, and administrative support, allowing clients to work directly with the professionals leading their projects from start to finish.

Honoring a Legacy Through Design

Some projects are about more than buildings—they're about preserving memories.

The Architect LLC is honored to be working with the St. Mary of the Plains Alumni Association on the design of the "Spirit of Place" Memorial Plaza in Dodge City. This memorial is being created to celebrate the enduring legacy of St. Mary of the Plains Academy, High School, and College, institutions that shaped the lives of generations of students, faculty, and families.

Although portions of the historic campus, including the dormitories, are no longer standing, Hennessy Hall, the Sheridan Activity Center (YMCA), and Cavalier Baseball Field continue to serve the community and stand as reminders of St. Mary's rich history.

The plaza is envisioned as a peaceful place for reflection, remembrance, and reunion. The design includes a Celtic cross, memorial benches, a water feature, and laser-engraved brick icons depicting the Academy, the Blessed Virgin Mary campus statue, and Hennessy Hall. Together, these elements will honor the people, traditions, and faith that made St. Mary of the Plains such a special place.

To help preserve those memories for future generations, the memorial will also feature interpretive signage with a QR code that visitors can scan to explore the complete history of St. Mary of the Plains—from its beginnings as an academy through its years as a high school and college, and ultimately its closing.

Architecture has the unique ability to preserve history—not only through structures, but by creating places where stories continue to be shared. We are grateful for the opportunity to help transform cherished memories into a lasting place of honor for alumni, families, and the entire community.

Every place has a story. This one will ensure the Spirit of Place lives on.
