🐾 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project No. 11 | Pet Paradise Resort

It’s always rewarding to see a project succeed—and even more rewarding to come back and help it grow.

Originally completed in 2008, this upscale pet boarding and daycare facility brought a new level of care to the area—combining climate-controlled indoor suites, grooming services, and thoughtfully designed outdoor play spaces, all within a site carefully planned to remain compatible with its rural surroundings.
eda supported the project from the beginning, providing planning, engineering, and surveying services to guide it through the Special Exception process and development approvals, and delivering the civil design needed to bring the site to life.

Then, more than a decade later, we had the opportunity to return.
In 2020, following annexation into the City of Newberry, eda supported the expansion of the facility—adding new building space, increasing capacity, and navigating a new round of approvals under updated regulations. The expanded site plan was carefully designed to integrate with the original development while maintaining the same buffering, setbacks, and overall character of the property.

Today, Pet Paradise continues to serve the community as a trusted pet care destination—designed to grow alongside the community it serves.

🩺 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project No. 10 | UF Health Proton Therapy Institute Gantry Expansion

Advancing healthcare means designing for precision—not just inside the treatment room, but across every inch of the site.

For the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute's expansion in 2019, eda supported the addition of a new proton accelerator and gantry, expanding the facility’s capacity to deliver highly specialized cancer treatments. Our team provided both surveying and civil engineering services, working within a dense, built environment to carefully coordinate new infrastructure with existing systems.

From detailed topographic and utility surveys—including ground penetrating radar—to the design of grading, stormwater, water, and sewer systems, this project required a high level of accuracy and collaboration. The expansion also included rerouting an existing water main and modifying parking and circulation to support the updated facility.

Projects like this reflect the kind of thoughtful, technical work that happens behind the scenes in complex healthcare environments—where every detail matters, and every improvement supports better outcomes for patients and providers alike.

As we celebrate 50 years, we’re proud to have contributed to projects that strengthen critical infrastructure and expand access to advanced care across Florida.

✈️ 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project #9 | GNV Waldo Access Road

Connecting people, places, and possibilities

eda partnered with the Gainesville Regional Airport to design a new 3,200-foot entrance road linking Waldo Road directly to the airport terminal, creating a safer, more efficient arrival experience for travelers and visitors alike.

Delivered in two phases, this project required thoughtful coordination across multiple agencies and disciplines. Our team provided full-service support from the ground up—beginning with detailed topographic surveying that captured wetlands, utilities, and existing site features, and continuing through complete civil design, stormwater engineering, and permitting.

We worked closely with the St. Johns River Water Management District, the City of Gainesville, and GRU to secure approvals and implement critical infrastructure improvements, including modifications to the site’s existing Environmental Resource Permit and integration with the master drainage system.

This project is one of many eda has supported at the airport over the years. From access and infrastructure improvements like this roadway to more recent growth-focused efforts—including passenger terminal expansion and apron and runway projects—our team has remained a consistent partner in helping the airport evolve and expand.

So next time you’re rolling in to catch a flight at one of the region’s most convenient airports, there’s a good chance you’re traveling on infrastructure designed by eda.

🏟 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project #8

eda is proud of the role we played in bringing the Alachua County Sports & Events Center at Celebration Pointe to life. This premier facility has quickly become a destination for major events—last week it hosted the 2026 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships, welcoming collegiate athletes from across the country to Gainesville.

Delivered through an innovative public–private partnership, the project required close coordination between Alachua County, private development partners, and the design and construction teams. eda supported the project from early site evaluation through construction.

eda provided civil engineering and surveying services for the approximately 130,000-square-foot indoor sports facility and its supporting infrastructure, including the adjacent five-story parking garage designed to accommodate event traffic and visitor demand. Our team contributed site design, utility coordination, grading and drainage design, stormwater permitting, and surveying services ranging from boundary and topographic surveys to construction layout and final as-built documentation.

The Sports & Events Center is part of the larger Celebration Pointe development. Stay tuned next week for a closer look at eda’s role in that landmark project.

🏡 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project #7
Completed in 2003, Hillcrest Subdivision is a 13.5-acre planned development along NW 8th Avenue featuring 61 single-family homes arranged around pedestrian-friendly streets, rear-access alleys, sidewalks, and a central gathering space. The project was an early example of compact, design-forward residential development in Gainesville.
eda provided planning, surveying, and civil engineering services, including PD rezoning, boundary and topographic surveys, platting, and site design and permitting. The project required careful coordination around existing wetlands, balancing environmental constraints with neighborhood character and development goals.
Stay tuned as we continue celebrating 50 years of eda and the neighborhoods that shape how our community lives and grows.

Last week, our team attended the ribbon cutting for Kirkland Farms in the City of Alachua, hosted by the Alachua Chamber of Commerce.
Kirkland Farms, a new 150-lot single-family subdivision, represents the thoughtful transformation of approximately 51 acres into a connected, neighborhood-focused community. eda consultants was proud to serve as the civil engineer, land planner, surveyor, and permitting lead for the project. Working alongside Garden Street Communities and Adams Homes, our team guided the project from entitlement and preliminary platting through final design and construction coordination. Scope included:
• Site planning and subdivision design
• Stormwater management design and permitting
• Utility coordination for potable water and wastewater service
• Boundary and topographic surveying
• Agency coordination and development approvals
Congratulations to all project partners on bringing this neighborhood to completion. Kirkland Farms is a meaningful addition to the community’s residential landscape and reflects the quality being delivered throughout the development.
We value our continued collaboration with Garden Street Communities and Adams Homes on this and other residential communities throughout the region, and look forward to continuing our work together on projects that contribute to the region’s long-term growth.

We were honored to join our community last week for the topping out of the Dance Alive National Ballet’s new Khoury Family Center for the Arts — an exciting milestone for the arts in Gainesville.

As the civil engineer, surveyor of record, and the team behind the land planning and permitting, eda is proud to have helped guide this project from vision to vertical construction.

This year marks eda’s 50th anniversary serving North Central Florida (est. 1976). It feels especially meaningful to celebrate that milestone alongside organizations that have shaped our cultural landscape for decades — Dance Alive (est. 1966, 60 years) and Pohfal Studios (est. 1956, 70 years). Generations of commitment to this community are coming together in one transformative project.

We’re grateful to collaborate with our partners at Pohfal Studios, Scherer Construction, BXP Architects, and the many supporters who have helped bring the Khoury Family Center for the Arts to this milestone.

Projects like this remind us why we do what we do — helping build places that will serve our community for generations.

🛒 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project No. 6
If you’ve shopped at the Publix at Westgate Plaza, at the corner of University and 34th, you’ve experienced the result of a carefully coordinated redevelopment at one of Gainesville’s key gateways.
Project 6 in our 50 Projects for 50 Years series highlights the Westgate Publix redevelopment, a high-profile site transformation that delivered a new grocery store and commercial liner buildings while navigating transect zoning, multi-agency coordination, and complex roadway interfaces.
Located at a major FDOT intersection, the project required thoughtful planning and engineering to balance accessibility, traffic flow, utilities, and pedestrian connectivity. eda provided surveying, planning, and civil engineering services, supporting site development, permitting, and construction coordination to bring the redevelopment to completion.
In addition to local regulatory approvals, the project required adherence to Publix’s rigorous corporate design and development standards, adding another layer of coordination to the process. Over the years, eda has designed and permitted multiple Publix locations in and around Gainesville, building familiarity with both municipal review processes and the detailed corporate requirements that guide these projects.
Projects like this demonstrate how even everyday destinations require careful design and regulatory navigation to function seamlessly within the broader community.
Stay tuned as we continue celebrating 50 years of eda and the projects that shape how our community lives, shops, and grows.

🌿 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project No. 5
This past weekend, Florida State Parks offered free admission in honor of Presidents’ Day. Missed it? Good news — this one is free year-round.
The Nature Coast State Trail stretches 42 miles along former railroad corridors, connecting Cross City, Trenton, Fanning Springs, and Chiefland. Today it’s a destination for biking, walking, and exploring North Florida’s landscapes.
In 2010, eda provided civil engineering, land planning, and surveying services on behalf of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to help implement improvements along the corridor. Our work included site and development plans, stormwater design, permitting coordination, construction support, and preparation of easement descriptions to convert sections of the abandoned rail line into a continuous public trail.
Projects like this demonstrate how infrastructure can be thoughtfully adapted to create lasting public resources for recreation and conservation.
Stay tuned as we continue celebrating 50 years of eda and the projects that shape how our community explores the outdoors.
