ASCE Fresno Branch The Fresno Branch of ASCE Region 9 covers the California counties of Fresno, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced and Tulare Counties.

Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 140000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide. The Fresno Branch is part of the San Francisco Section in Region 9. Our mission is to connect fellow Civil Engineers with their peers and provide them resources to better serve our community.

Now that the holidays are over, come join us for some networking, lunch and a great presentation. We are kicking our monthly luncheons back off for this year by welcoming Kevin Tuttle Assistant Public Utilities Director with the City of Clovis as our speaker this month. He will be presenting on two very important topics: Water Rate Studies and Steel Water Storage Tank Rehabilitation.

Today our engineering community concluded their Toys for Tots campaign. Every year the ASCE YMF Branch leads up a local Toys for Tots collection drive. Local engineering firms collect new and unwrapped toys, that will be disturbed to kids throughout the community. Every year we conclude our part of the campaign with a big drop off at Hederick’s Chevrolet. Thank you to all of those who donated, and to the volunteers who helped make this year’s event a success!

Congratulations to all of our ASCE Section Award Winners! We had multiple Branch awardees go on to win in their categories at the section level. We had many representatives from our Branch attending the awards banquet in San Francisco this past Friday. It was great to see so many awardees from the Fresno Branch. Great job!!!

Please join us to socialize, network and hear a great update from Garth Fernandez, the Central Valley Regional Director for the California High Speed Rail Authority. He will be sharing an update on the construction progress on the nation's first high speed rail system. He will also be sharing information on the funding, current construction costs within the City of Fresno, along with safety improvements and projected milestones.

To celebrate the beginning of the holiday season, the Fresno ASCE Branch participated in the annual Christmas Tree Lane Walk night. Members of ASCE, YMF and the Student Chapter bundled up with their family and friends to participate in this local tradition.

Great turnout today at the monthly meeting. Mark and Shawn of Cornerstone Structural Engineering Group presented their recent resurfacing and start-finish bridge replacement at the world-renowned WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The project design was completed in a record four months and was specifically designed to accommodate the raceway's busy race and exhibition schedule. Construction began in November 2022 and was completed in June 2023.
