A few weeks ago I spotted this East German Trabant in the weeds by an abandoned house. I've been researching them and found out less than 100 ever reached the USA.

Tonight we drove there and by wild coincidence the owner was there. Turns out he installed a VW TDI engine, airbag suspension, fuel cell, racing seat, and a custom steering using transmission parts!!

Although Deb Crowe was disappointed that I wasn't buying it for our anniversary, he invited me to stop back anytime. I offered to help him get it back on the road so perhaps I've got a new friend.

If you are using the IG-2 ignition kit (most of you), the ECU has a short pigtail for the dashboard. Adding the dash is super easy!

If you are using the 8400/8405 ignition, there is a harness required which connects the dash to CAN BUS and you will need to set the CAN up in your map, which is SUPER easy.

This past month a friend and I were working on a mutual project but we are 20+ hours apart. I have a dash, he doesn't. The value of the dash became painfully obvious because I was able to watch RPM and Ignition timing real time, without a laptop.

The problem was simple, but we didn't catch it right away 😕 and this dash could have saved us a few hours of head scratching!!

This afternoon is test 'n tune for the CJ5. I am verifying my "manual" observed timing compared to the computer.

I did this with my Allis but never bothered to on the Jeep. Once we have the two values agreeing, tiny changes via software will be meaningful.

This is the only AMC engine with our billet aluminum "distributor" which has been modified to run our current ignition system. It works VERY well.

Hey man, it's just a few wires. We understand some people are terrified of wiring jobs or computers. But the advantages are well worth the learning curve!

Look at any auto/truck/motorcycle/ATV dealership and show me a new vehicle without any ECU/ECM... go ahead, I will wait 😆

Seriously, I sort wiring and install connectors so YOU don't have to. Buy a quality crimping tool and connectors, watch a few YouTube videos, or sneak your local wiring guru a $100 and do it CORRECTLY.

It's difficult to operate equipment and create videos. Most of my posts show how well this pulls at low rpm because that's extremely difficult. This video has high and low because this part of our farm is very hilly and rough. Plant food where the deer hang out!!

High performance (efficient) modern coils require saturation control well beyond the vending machine parts we used to use. Hey, it is 2026 so why use 1908 Kettering parts?
