A message from our President and CEO:

Today, we honor our longtime friend and colleague Chris Mahana. Chris had been battling cancer for the past several years, forcing him into early retirement. Tragically, Chris recently lost that battle, but not without one helluva fight.

Chris left his mark on everything he touched. No one could outwork him. No one cared more deeply for the soldiers we train, his brothers in arms. He was blunt. He could be your worst nightmare if he felt you were in the way of doing the right thing for the soldier. He was also deeply loyal and had a huge heart.

I was lucky enough to spend some time with Chris outside of work. He and my dad shared a love for motorcycles. They also shared a diagnosis that would ultimately defeat them both. Chris rode down to meet my dad in the summer in 2020. They shared a laugh and a beer as they swapped stories about road trips on the bike. When my dad passed a few months later, Chris was the first one on my moms’ doorstep, having driven through the night from upstate Washington. That was Chris. He gave us two big shoulders to cry on, and we did.

One year later, I had the pleasure of driving Chris to Boise to celebrate Bob Pidgeon’s retirement. I cherish those hours in the car, talking about nothing and everything.

Say a prayer for his family and hug yours tonight. Rest in peace, brother.
