Great time yesterday at Virginia's Innovation Crossroads (VIC) Annual Meeting discussing the future of our regional workforce and economic landscape!

A few quick eye-opening stats shared:

- 57.6% of our regional workforce currently commutes outside the area.
- Turnover costs: High employee turnover costs businesses $4,000+ per worker.
- Major job growth on the horizon: Major expansions like M.C. Dean (1,950 jobs in Caroline County), L3Harris (350 jobs in Orange County), Avio USA (1,400+ jobs in Pittsylvania County), and Kalahari Resort opening Nov 12 in Spotsylvania County (1,400 jobs, 6x industry career growth) are opening up incredible high-wage opportunities right here at home.

The solution? Market-driven productivity, removing barriers to hiring, and creating clear, performance-backed advancement paths for our local workforce.

We had a fantastic time at the Fredericksburg Area Builders Association (FABA) King George County Spotlight hosted at Westbrooke Homes’ stunning model home!

It was a pleasure hearing directly from King George County Building Official Rick Herron, who shared valuable insights on local development, code enforcement, and community growth:

* What Really Makes a Bedroom? Rick clarified a common real estate misconception, a closet alone doesn’t define a bedroom! Per Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC), a legal bedroom requires a minimum of 70 square feet of floor area, a compliant emergency escape and rescue opening (egress window/door), and smoke alarms installed both inside the room and in the immediate vicinity outside sleeping areas.

* Regional Collaboration: One of King George’s key strengths is its strong collaboration with surrounding localities, working together to foster consistency and predictability across jurisdiction lines.

* Commercial & Residential Growth: From essential commercial services to vibrant residential communities, King George is moving full steam ahead. Discussion highlighted exciting new projects across the county, including commercial developments like Dunkin', a new car wash, auto repair facility, and Pyramid Healthcare, alongside premier residential neighborhoods such as South Hall and Walnut Hill.

Not a bad morning view from the "office"! 🚀

One of our remote employees in Florida got a front-row seat to this morning’s NASA & SpaceX CRS-35 resupply mission to the International Space Station. The Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral at 6:33 AM, carrying crucial research payloads and equipment into orbit.

While Legacy Engineering is rooted in Virginia, our flexible remote work culture empowers our team members to build their careers from wherever they thrive. We’re proud to support an environment where our team stays connected, inspired, and energized by the incredible feats of engineering that make views like this possible!

Our team was proud to walk in the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation’s Power of Pink Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday. We love supporting our local healthcare industry and the incredible work Mary Washington Healthcare does to make a meaningful difference for individuals and families in our community affected by breast cancer. Every step counts!

Today, some of the incredible women of Legacy Engineering stepped away from their desks to enjoy lunch together!

We make it a priority to get out of the office once a month, giving us a dedicated space to catch up on life outside of work, share a great meal, and build genuine connections.

One of the absolute best parts of working for a woman-owned firm in the AEC industry is experiencing the authentic support, mentorship, and camaraderie among women in our field.

Building each other up and taking time to connect makes our team stronger every day.

What a fantastic turnout for today’s FABA Spotsylvania County Spotlight!
Instead of a standard meeting room, we gathered inside Atlantic Builders' Keswick Commons model home, and to say it was stunning is an understatement!
Today was a powerful reminder of what happens when great civil engineering, thoughtful land planning, and exceptional homebuilding come together. From structural detail and infrastructure to the finishing touches, creating quality communities takes strong collaboration from day one.
As engineers, developers, and local homeowners, we know these aren't just floor plans and site designs on paper, they’re the foundation where local families will build their lives and make memories for years to come.

Fall brings plenty of changes above ground, but we’re looking at what can change below the surface, too.

As cooler weather settles in, our lab team is screening soil samples for acid-producing pyritic material. A testing solution is added to the soil to see how it reacts, and some samples put on quite the show, resembling a mini volcanic eruption!

The reaction helps our team identify pyritic soils, which can create acidic conditions when exposed to air and moisture during excavation and construction.

From changing leaves to changing soil conditions, there’s plenty to keep an eye on this season!
