July is almost over already! During this month, Specialized Engineering celebrated our field staff in both Frederick (7/18) and Baltimore (7/11). Our field staff in Geotechnical, Environmental, Specialty Inspections, Steel Inspections and Materials Testing departments had the extreme heat this month so even more reason to celebrate! A couple weeks ago, Major League Baseball held their All-Star festivities, including the popular Home Run Derby with Teoscar Hernandez of the LA Dodgers being the winner. At Specialized Engineering, we take SAFETY very seriously – while having a little fun.
In June, Specialized Engineering conducted a new employee event to highlight safety at the workplace and on the worksite, holding the Safety Olympics at both Frederick and Baltimore locations and for both field and the lab personnel.
For the Lab Safety Olympics, 6 events were held with a bronze, silver and gold medal up for grabs at each event.
For the Field Safey Olympics, 8 events were held with bronze, silver and gold medals available in each event.
Events included first aid, ID the hazards, trench, ladder and driving safety, among others. Staff was able to learn, win and enjoy a little competition – while having more fun than a lecture or a video.

Specialized Engineering is a great place to be! As an Employee-Owned company, Specialized Engineering gives the benefit of the work to the people who build the company – the employee-owners. Every June, Specialized Engineering announces the company’s new stock price – as determined by an outside valuator, and they have a little fun while doing it. With a “Price is Right” theme, employee-owners take part in multiple games, including the Price Tag game and competing for showcases. All leading up to the stock price announcements. A little team building, a little friendly competition. Recently, Specialized Engineering employees participated in their Annual Co****le Tournament. With elimination tournaments at both the Baltimore and Frederick offices, the culmination of the competition was the inter-office “toss-off”. The Frederick and Baltimore teams went head-to-head for bragging rights for the next year and for the right to house the brand new Co****le trophy at their office for the next 12 months.
The 2024 winner was the Frederick office. We know all will be practicing for the 2025 tournament and the right to house that traveling trophy.
