This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States, we are reminded that the freedoms, opportunities, and way of life we enjoy today were secured through sacrifice. For nearly two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have answered the call to serve with courage, honor, and selflessness.

Today is more than a long weekend. It is a day of remembrance for those who never made it home.

May we never take their sacrifice for granted, and may we continue striving to build a nation worthy of the price they paid.

Strong leadership sets the standard for others long before it asks others to follow.

Today, we are proud to celebrate our CEO, Chris Parsell, on graduating from the Leadership Frederick County program.

As leaders, it is easy to become consumed by the day to day demands of business. What makes great leaders different is their willingness to continue learning, growing, listening, and investing in the people and communities around them. Over the past several months, Chris chose to do exactly that alongside other leaders throughout Frederick County.

Leadership Frederick County is designed to challenge and develop leaders who are committed to making a lasting impact in our community. Chris’s participation demonstrates that true leadership is built in the daily commitment to growth, humility, and the small choices that continually raise the standard for yourself and those around you.

City of Brunswick, MD adopted a new flag and this one hit close to home.

The control tower featured in the design is part of our B&O Railroad Park project. A structure that represents Brunswick’s deep railroad history is now part of how the city tells its story moving forward.

It is not every day you get to work on something that becomes part of how a city represents itself. Moments like this are a reminder that what we build carries meaning far beyond the project itself. We are honored to be in an industry that plays a critical role in building and preserving what makes a town feel like home and what allows its legacy to endure.

Before the sun rises, our team is already at work importing fill to bring the site to subgrade in preparation for the new asphalt parking lot. Proper subgrade preparation is one of the most critical steps in any paving project. If the foundation beneath the asphalt is not properly graded and compacted, long-term performance is compromised before the first vehicle ever drives on it.

At Contour Construction, we take these early phases seriously. Getting the subgrade right ensures the pavement structure performs as intended and sets the stage for everything that follows.

Delivering large scale Design-Build civic projects takes more than simply following drawings. It requires proactive communication and coordination between the field and the office throughout construction. Our team regularly reviews site plans together to stay ahead of grading, stormwater, utilities layout, and surrounding infrastructure work as the project progresses. By maintaining constant dialogue between the field team, project managers, and design partners, we can anticipate challenges, make informed decisions early, and keep the project moving forward with clarity and alignment. This level of collaboration ensures the park is built intentionally and performs the way it was designed to serve the community.

Hardened snow is part of winter construction in the DMV and we prepare each year accordingly. We immediately prioritized snow removal and it remains ongoing to restore full site access. Interior work has continued where possible, with teams focused on coordination and readiness to advance work.

This weekend, the Contour Construction team had the privilege of showing up in service across Frederick.

Friday night, our COO and Secretary for Federated Charities joined the Executive Director and fellow Board Members in the Kris Kringle Procession. By supporting Federated Charities Frederick, you support job skills and workforce reentry, champion art, culture, and preservation, provide free legal and medical services, offer shelter to unhoused youth, restore family connections, distribute winter coats, share food, and invest directly in Frederick.

The very next morning, CEO Chris Parsell, COO Lisa Parsell, and Project Manager Ron Appler partnered with our friends at BMC - Business Management Company, Inc. as Toy Room Helpers at the Clarion Hotel. Together, we supported Mission Christmas, hosted by the The Frederick Rescue Mission, where 2,428 toys were collected and distributed across 29 drives, serving 758 individual families in our community.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside organizations that are making a real difference and proud to be part of a community that comes together to care for its own.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new John R. Webb VFW Post 3285 was a truly special moment for our team. We are thrilled to see this new post home officially open its doors at 5951 Old National Pike, a space that has been years in the making and will serve the Frederick veteran community for generations.

We are grateful to have partnered with the VFW on this important project and honored to play a small part in bringing their vision to life. This was not just another project for the books. Our family, friends, and team members' service to this country was part of every brick in this project. Their sacrifices and commitment to protecting our freedom gave this work a deeper meaning for all of us. Standing in the new event space yesterday made that even more meaningful, a reminder that this post home represents the legacy of many who have served and those who continue to serve today.

Hearing the messages shared during the ceremony reminded us why this project matters. From Commander Danny Rodriguez reflecting on the post’s ninety years of service to Frederick, to post Adjutant Patrick Pierson’s moving presentation on the life of this property and the journey that brought this new home to reality, and words from community leaders and veterans, it was clear that this building is much more than a structure. It is a sanctuary, a gathering place and a cornerstone where stories will be told and bonds will be strengthened.

We are proud of the work that brought this new home to life and even more proud of what it will mean for the veterans who have served our country with honor.

Congratulations to VFW Post 3285 on this incredible milestone. Frederick is stronger because of you.
